James Gunn Talks THUNDERBOLTS, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sequel, Not Having The Rights To BUG And More!

     In a recent interview with Screenrant, James Gunn discussed the possiblity of him directing a Thunderbolts film for Marvel. "Thunderbolts?" Gunn said. "I will tell you, one time I was saying to Kevin [Feige], we were sitting on set together on one of the days he visited and I said, ‘You know, I really want to make Thunderbolts,' and he said, 'James, if Guardians does well you'll be able to do whatever you want.' So we'll see what happens." Wow, didn't that response from Feige sound so nonchalant? The interview then went on to discuss if we will be seeing 'Bug' anytime soon. Surprisingly Marvel does not not own the rights to that character!

     Gunn had this to say, "We don't own Bug. So Bug is not in the sequel he would be one of my primarily contenders for a sequel but to be completely honest, I'm in love with the Guardians and I would love to stay in the Marvel Cosmic arena for the time being. It's true." Regarding other characters, specifically more Guardians of the Galaxy characters for the sequel, Gunn said that he loves "a lot of the other Guardians so I think about it quite a bit. I love… I love a lot of them and if I say one then all those fans of that one character are going to come out and then I might decide that character doesn’t work as well so we’ll see. We may have some Guardians we've already met."

Head over to Screenrant to read more in this interview where James Gunn disscuses lady heroes, Groot and Rocket, and more! Sound off below!

Bug has to be with Fox... who else could it be?

HAHA! That's officially my favourite Feige quote.
"James, if Guardians does well, you'll be able to do whatever you want.

They don't own Bug? The MCU is dead to me

@Nova

Oh nice! Was he part of the Guardians at some point?

He was indeed, a pretty great member too, disappointed they don't have the rights to him. He'd be anoter weird talker though 'cause he constantly goes *tik* mid-speech.

Didn't Gunn said that Bug was in the early draft?

Haw...I actually had most of the micronauts run at one point. Oh well.

Okay,
I'll watch the movie tomorrow and I hope, they will show the post credit scene

I also think that Gunn's comment about the credits scene should put to rest any theories that it's gonna be a nothing to see scene like with Avengers, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.

I just watched Slither last night... based on that I'd say Bug would be right in Gunn's wheelhouse.

If you go the link, Gunn also talks about adding another female character to the next installment (Moondragon?, Mantis?), and that we may have already met another potential member (Cosmo? Iron Man? Hulk?).

I'm gonna assume it's Cosmo.

This sounds good!!!

Cool to see a Thunderbolt movie, I guess we'll see how Sinister Six does in the box office first

GotG is a guaranteed hit so far

Wow Kevin is basically giving James a blank cheque when it comes to making the movie he wants (if GotG actually succeeds in the box office)!

In the AMC interview, Gunn said Bug barely wasn't in the movie. Now the don't own the rights?

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon I would think he adds a new female hero, it would be Quasar. I could be wrong, but she makes the most sense.

Can't have Phylla-Vell without Wendell Vaughn first. Though I do hope they bring in her and Moondragon.

@NovaCorpsFan

I agree and disagree. From a fan's perspective, I would love to see him. His absolute act of heroism in Annihilation should be captured in some way or form if only to find a way to free the bands for Phylla. I'm not sure if, from a cinematic point of view, it would be necessary, though. Quasar fills one of the gaps that the team has, while Mantis fills the other. I think Mantis might prove lackluster in a cinematic setting, while Phylla-Vell would be very dynamic. Bring Moondragon with her, and Mantis's gap is filled as well. Right now, as it stands, the Guardians line-up lacks a powerful, ranged, airborne member. Phylla fills that perfectly.

I should add that I am well aware that the above is null if we get Adam Warlock.

Yeah, it's certainly lookin' like the next incarnation will have three new members. Warlock, Phylla-Vell and Moondragon would be the obvious ones really.

I'm hoping we get a Captain Marvel film before a GotG sequel. That way they can easily introduce Mar-Vell's daughter and then tag her along with the Guardians.

"We may have some Guardians we've already met."

What does that mean? Does he mean characters we've already met in the MCU are joining the Guardians?

Iron Man? Hulk?

Pretty obvious that only Drax and Gamora will be rotated.

They are not going to remove Quill, Rocket, or Groot.

Damn maybe one day we'll see this team. That team would wreck any other team put together.
