Chatting exclusively with Comic Book Therapy at the Dragon*Con convention, comic book writer Jim Starlin shared more thoughts regarding The Avengers mid-credits surprise, Thanos, in which created, and the villain's future appearance in Marvel's cinematic universe. While that appearance is said to be in the 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation, Starlin also reveals who he thinks could voice the Mad Titan.

“This past week the head of the Marvel studios said that Thanos was going to be, I guess, the centerpiece of the Guardians movie and going into Avengers 2. I don’t read as many comic books as I used to, as I recall the Guardians are in the future but they have all these characters in it now that are in the present like Drax and Gamora and all that. Are they still in the future?”

“Ok, so they are in this time zone alright. I think it’s pretty cool actually. I will be curious to see more of Thanos. We only saw that head and shoulder shot. The little filigree they added to the armor was kind of nice. I can’t wait to see the whole guy and hear him speak.”

“I had thought about Idris Elba [voicing Thanos], who is an English actor I always thought about. He is already appearing as Heimdall. There were rumors going around that Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be tapped for it, which at first I thought was a bad idea but then I caught him in the news since his post-cancer treatment and he has Thanos’ voice. He has this real gravelly voice and he would probably work well. Couldn’t think of anybody else I’d throw out off the top of my head.”

It was revealed that Damion Poitier donned Thanos' makeup and prosthetics for his cameo in The Avengers. However, it's unknown if the actor will fill the purple villain's shoes in future speaking roles. Anyhow, for the full interview, where Jim Starlin discusses Thanos: Son of Titan's cancellation, head over to Comic Book Therapy.

Marvel Studios presents “Guardians of the Galaxy”—the big cinematic event exploring an interstellar super hero team-up, featuring Marvel characters Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Raccoon. While story details are under wraps, the film is rumored to lead with a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

From a screenplay by Nicole Perlman and Chris McCoy, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “Guardians of the Galaxy,” first published in 1969 and revived in 2008. While a director and ensemble cast have yet to be announced, “Guardians of the Galaxy” will assemble on August 1, 2014. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will distribute the film. In addition to “Guardians of the Galaxy”, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; and the currently-untitled sequel to “Marvel's The Avengers,” the third highest grossing film of all time, on May 1, 2015.

I wouldn't want to hear Arnold's voice coming out of Thanos's mouth. I think his voice is too distinct that everyone in the world knows it and it would take us out of the character.

how about... whoever you cast to play him is the "voice actor"

in other words.. please have it be an actor in a suit with practical make-up and not a cgi creation.

Thanos needs to have a deep voice that makes people tremble in his awesome presence. Sort of like Darth Vader. Personally, I thought Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP) would have been a perfect choice. Arnold just doesn't fit the part. Idk. I'm sure Marvel will find somebody suitable.

Stringer Bell would be killer for the voice, to bad he's being wasted in Thor. Michael Ironside's is always a good go-to menacing voice. Thanos ia Darseid copy so he's already perfect for it.

Isnt Jim starling the same guy who was reported a bit ago trying to sue Marvel for using Thanos without his permission...now he thinks its koo and wants to give his opinion on how the character should be handled?

I say let Damion Poitier resume the role, I've seen some of his other work, in and out of make up and it would be kool to have a lesser known actor portray the larger than life Mad Titan :D

Heres a link for an example some of Damion Poitier's work, and listen if the tone of his voice could fit Thanos:

When I first saw Thanos after Avengers I immediately thought Michael Clarke Duncan. It's a shame he died so early. He was the perfect "big guy." If he was white, he would have been a badass Jim Lee drawn Batman.

I'm not sure what he's name is, but the guy who lends his voice for Sam Fisher from the Splinter Cell games could voice Thanos.

TheOneAboveAll - 9/6/2012, 5:01 PM
(jimpinto24) He is a very famous actor, Michael Ironside. He has starred in movies such as Total Recall (Ironically alongside AHNOLD), Terminator Salvation, Top Gun, The Machinist, and Starship Troopers.

Don't know how many of you listen to Sports radio, FOX Sports specifically, but they have this guy in the A.M. By the name of Artrell Hawkins.... IMHO, for a CPU generated villain like Thanos, his deep voice would be perfect. His deep voice is on that Michael Clark Duncan (RIP) level.

I think Avengers Hulk shows Marvel ismore than capable of making an amazing CG characters and i think for him to not look cheesy during fights he needs to be. I think Idris Elba is actually a perfect choice, but i would go with the guy that does Marcus Fenix frm Gears of War.
