Back in March, the trades reported that Marvel Studios is officially moving forward with a Nova project. It wasn't revealed at the time whether it would be a movie or Disney+ TV series, though we do know that Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel writer Sabir Pirzada has been tapped to pen the character's MCU debut.
The belief is that the focus will be put on Richard Rider and Sam Alexander, though how this adaptation will deal with Thanos' attack on Xandar and the Nova Corps remains to be seen.
Now, The Cosmic Circus is reporting that the plan is for Nova to be a Marvel Studios Special Presentation in the same vein as Werewolf by Night. This means the character's introduction won't be stretched out over the course of a six-episode TV series or the focal point of a feature film.
It was recently reported that Marvel Studios is looking to make more Special Presentations, with the previously announced Shang-Chi and Black Panther spinoffs also believed to be taking that form now. That makes more sense than giving a TV show to pretty much everyone, particularly when it's become apparent that Kevin Feige is being stretched thin.
Presenting this story in the space of 50 minutes will also make life easier for crews, VFX artists, and Marvel Studios as a whole. The recent Phase 5 delays in what's proving to be a jam-packed Multiverse Saga are proof they need to slow down a little.
Nova is a character comic book fans have been waiting to see on screen for years now, and we're sure this Special Presentation will lay the groundwork for Richard, Sam, or both to be a big part of the MCU. The character is an absolute powerhouse, so could be key in the battle against Kang the Conqueror.
Stay tuned for updates on Nova.
