Director James Gunn is known for communicating with Marvel fans all the time on Twitter and Facebook. Late last month, Gunn took to the former to answer some frequently asked questions he seems to be constantly getting about Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1 & 2. In the series of tweets (linked above), Gunn makes some pretty imporant revelations - depending on how much you care about Easter Eggs!
For example, he has previously stated on his FAQ series of tweets that Kraglin (Sean Gunn) survives Avengers: Infinity War and will eventually return to the franchise, offering that he was "doing something important" in space during the events of that film. Gunn also revealed that the "major easter egg" in Guardians of the Galaxy is still at-large and there are "tons" of Easter Eggs in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 that remain undiscovered.
I didn't want to link the entire thread in the article, but here is a summary of what Gunn said in the FAQ tweets from last month (If you want to see the tweets in their entirety, click on the source above the article):
- Kraglin's fin at the end of Vol. 2 is a different fin than Yondu's
- Yes, Gunn hand picks all the songs for the movies
- The Guardians can travel light years in space, OF COURSE they can figure out how to power a Walkman/Zune without batteries
- And they also know how to repair a broken cassette tape or cassette player
- The Guardians each have a translator implanted so that they can both understand AND be understood by others
- Young Groot does not have the memories of the Groot from the first movie - they are two separate characters
- The "Major" Easter Egg has not been found (from Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1)
- No, he isn't making up the Easter Egg
- There are actually a ton of unfound Easter Eggs in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2
- Adam Warlock will NOT be in Avengers 4 (and he never said he definitely will be in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3)
- Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 will be set AFTER Avengers 4
- No, he will not give any hints on the Easter Eggs
- Yes, all of the Guardians now understand Groot, as shown in Infinity War
That's quite a lot of information for a short series of tweets! Some fans have become rather persistent in searching for the remaining Easter Eggs. There have even been YouTube videos and Reddit posts dedicated to finding all of them - some even breaking down the two films frame-by-frame. But still, no one has figured out "the major easter egg" that Gunn keeps referring back to from the first Guardians of the Galaxy.
Speaking of easter eggs, last month an eagle-eyed fan on Twitter discovered the Watchers (from Stan Lee's post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2) appear in the courtyard on Xandar, early on in the film. Gunn was quick to state, however, that this is not the easter egg he has been claiming everyone missed for the past 3 years:
Gunn also took to his Facebook account to confirm yet another Easter Egg from Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 as well. The scene in question is the one where Ego (Kurt Russell) is explaining to Quill (Chris Pratt) how he went across the galaxy, spreading his seed throughout all life he found. In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, he shows Quill a hologram of his younger self 'connecting' with numerous other life forms on different planets. Well, we now know that one of those life forms he was 'connecting' with was a descendant of Mantis' race (played by actress Jennifer Sharp)! Check out the picture below:
Even though fans are still finding easter eggs in these films, it seems that James Gunn may never reveal what exactly he is referring to when he says, "the major easter egg" in Guardians of the Galaxy. Here's to hoping someone finds it (and the rest of them) before Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 hits theatres in 2020.
What do you think? Will fans ever find the Easter Egg that Gunn is referring to? Does it even exist?
