Kevin Feige Teases GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 Plot And Future Plans For THANOS

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shares his thoughts on 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy 2, plans for Thanos and other cosmic villains from the first movie, and how he believes a meeting between the Guardians and The Avengers will play out on the big screen...

If you haven't seen Guardians of the Galaxy, you're going to want to stop reading now as there are some MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! Seen the movie? Still here? Good. In a recent interview with IGN Movies, Kevin Feige was quizzed about the hints which were dropped in the movie's final act about Peter Quill's father and whether that will form the backbone of the recently announced sequel which is set to be released in 2017. "I think it's pretty important," he teased. "I think there's a reason we seeded it at the very end of the film like that. I think that would certainly be part of a next Guardians adventure. Certainly, that would be part of it." As for Thanos - who has so far failed to aquire any of the Infinity Stones - and whether or not we'll see why he's a force to be reckoned with anytime soon (such as in Avengers: Age of Ultron next year for example), Feige added: "That is an excellent point to make. I don't know. The truth is, anything I say would be a spoiler, frankly, on that. I don't think it's required. I think you could go right into a Thanos-centered movie and tell the audience anything you need to know. But the fun of our universe is that the characters can pop up in multiple franchises, so... perhaps. It is a good question."

Regardless of when and where it happens, we know that Thanos (Josh Brolin) WILL return sooner or later), but there's another villain who many fans are also expecting to see again. Nebula is one of only a handful of Marvel movie baddies to make it to the end credits still alive, so do they have plans for the character played by Doctor Who star Karen Gillan? "I would say any character that doesn't overtly perish is certainly fair game to come back. If people know the comic lore, Nebula has a lot of varying different roles to play over the course of a lot of different titles in the comics. We have somebody like Karen, and you have a look that is so weird and so great. I think that's something we'd all like to see again."

Finally, talk turned to a subject we've all been discussing since Guardians of the Galaxy was released; when are they going to meet the Avengers? As you might expect, the Marvel Studios boss wasn't willing to give anything away! "You know, the fun about The Avengers, as we we're gearing up to that, was 'how would Tony Stark deal with goody two-shoes Steve Rogers in World War II?'" Feige said when asked how Earth's Mightiest Heroes would get on with Star-Lord and his team when they inevitably meet. "What would Tony Stark think of a Norse god who wields a hammer? The brilliance of Joss [Whedon] was having fun with that. So who knows if and when these guys would ever connect, but it is fun thinking about, how would Steve Rogers react to Rocket? Or, you're right, Drax couldn't even have a conversation with Tony Stark! [Laughs] I have a theory that the more time Drax spends with Peter Quill, the more he's going to start to learn, perhaps, that people aren't always as literal as his species would assume." What do you guys think?

Best MCU movie for me personally.

James Gunn is Godlike.

I wish they didn't kill off a certain character in the movie, though.

Wasted potential for future films and wasted talent.

All I need to see is Thanos go to Asgard and go ham on everybody for the Infinity Gauntlet in a post-credit scene in Thor 3.

He would be legit badass if that happen.

I like Karen Gillan, but I don't know why Marvel had her shave her head for such a small role.

I honestly don't care if we see Nebula again (plot-wise), but a return should definitely come with a larger role.

Or a [frick]ing bald cap.

I think Thanos looked amazing, honestly. Purple was a bit too light. Josh Brolin did ok but nothing at all impressive about it.

I don't like how Ronan was treated and his fate pissed me off. So two-dimensional, motives were murky, and the fact that he was nothing but an evil bastard made him no where near as interesting as he could've (And honestly should've) been. Nebula was nothing more than canon-fodder. The rest were meh.

@COREYxYEROC

I wouldn't mind if they go that route, but I wanna see Lee Pace come back.

I actually liked Ronan in the movie, they should have just teleported his overpowered ass to wherever Redskull is, lol.

Loved Thanos in GOTG and can't wait to see him again in the future.

They haven't done the time stone right? so surely they can retcon any of the dead villains in the MCU...I think they'll do that for Ronan and Red Skull is "somewhere" still...

Thanks needs to pop up at the end of Thor 3 (once Loki is defeated), and kill off Loki in a badass way for failing him in Avengers

"As for Thanos - who has so far failed to acquire any of the Infinity Stones"

Marvel does have pretty weak villains overall imho.Although, Loki is bad ass, he also failed Thanos.I'm really curious as 2 how he attains the stones/gems.As long as Odin/Loki is on the throne though, u know Loki is the one that's gonna hand him the Gauntlet.Especially since he owes him one. Also, we're in phase 2 already.I expected Thanos 2 have had at least acquired 2 or 3 stones/gems by then.Thanos has a lot of work to do!

On a side note I kinda wanna c a villain win at the end (in a CBM).& I don't mean like Joker did. I mean the villain actually wins.I know it will never happen, but that always reminds me of how Dr.Doom just said [frick] it! I'm done [frick]in with these dudes.I'm bored.& then proceeds to tell TA leave in that one episode of EMH.

With the success of this 'cosmic' movie, I really think we may get a Thanos solo-movie as his "official" intro to the MCU...how awesome would that be?

@JoJo1982

Imagine at the end of Thor and Odin comes back (kinda weak) and has to fight off Thanos...but loses.

That might make Thanos a little bit OP, but the nergasam would be overwhelming.

I'm not worried about Thanos not getting the Infinity Stones...it's his minions (Loki to some extent and Ronan) who have failed him. Eventually he'll head into action and I reckon we'll see huge attacks on Asgard, Xandar, Earth, etc. all at the same time. It's gonna be HUGE!

I think Ronan will show up in the aforementioned Thanos solo flic ;) Probably after Dr. Strange and the Time stone is introduced...

Avengers & Guardians (& probably others) vs Thanos in Avengers3. Bank on it.

Nebula was one of my favorite characters in GotG. Karen Gillan really pulled it off. I thought her look worked out really well. I hope they bring her back.

At this point, it's more than clear Avengers 3 will be a loose adaption of IG saga.

My opinion would to be to ' kill ' Cap off in Cap 3, Bucky takes over, and you have the GoG, AntMan and all that join the Avengers in fighting Thanos. Just imagining Peter Quill saying some snippy, wiseass line about a 'dead' Cap being frozen in ice or a man that turns into a green monster would be hilarious. So would Drax and Rockets reactions.

@CapitanAmerika2

I love Cap 2 a bunch (let me get that out the way) but I like GotG more. The one thing thing Russo brothers might be superior in is action.

Plus they are two different Directors taking different approaches in their respected movies.

I'm pretty sure the boy will be returning because Thanos got some lessons he is going to want to teach that kid. You think Thanos is going to let anyone deny him of his chance to deal some Cosmic Teaching? I sure don't
