Zoe Saldaña has made it clear that the recent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be her final time playing Gamora, but it sounds the like the actress still has the superhero bug.
While speaking to ComicBook.com about her Paramount+ series Special Ops: Lioness, Saldaña was asked if she'd have any interest in possibly jumping ship to DC now that GOTG director James Gunn is running the show.
"Yes, I do, I do. I love the superhero universe of any sort," she said. "I have sons that are obsessed with comic books right now, and superheroes, so for me to be a part of projects that they will get to watch for the next 10, 15 years of their whole lives, it's a dream for me."
Saldaña added, "If it never gets to happen, or if it happens with other filmmakers, and not James Gunn, or if it happens again with James Gunn, I would be so grateful."
Gunn has already confirmed that at least a couple of actors he worked with in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will show up in the DCU at some point, but he never gave us any hints as to who they might be. Is it possible that he already has a specific character in mind for Saldaña?
As for the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy, we're sure Zoe isn't dead set on never playing the character again, although she did express some mild disappointment about how her story wrapped up in a recent interview.
At the end of Vol. 3, Gamora - who wasn't the character we knew from the first two movies, but an alternate timeline Variant - chose to leave the Guardians and return to her Ravager family after bonding with Peter Quill and the others.
Saldaña admitted that she did initially envision a different fate for the green-skinned warrior.
"It was a bittersweet decision, obviously. I wanted to know that in the final chapter, Gamora stays on and finds a way to become a Guardian again. But this felt like the right way to end things for her, because of what she had been through. At the end of the day, any multiverse that she would’ve come from, she was still going to have the same experience with Thanos [Josh Brolin], and she was still gonna have the same guilt and the same trauma. So she finally found solace with the Ravagers, and she felt more open than she had ever been."
If Zoe Saldaña were to suit-up as a hero or villain in the DCU down the line, which character would you most like to see her play?
