We first learned that Peacemaker actor Chukwudi Iwuji had joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last year when director James Gunn shared a behind-the-scenes photo to mark the start of production, and despite numerous rumors that have done the rounds since, we still don't know who he'll play in the Marvel Studios threequel.
Iwuji has dropped a few hints in the past, describing his mysterious character as "complex" and "extremely powerful," and the actor has now shared a few more details during an interview with Variety.
"[The character] is very different from Murn. It requires different stuff from me. The way James works with me is pretty much the same, which is he trusts my choices — but at the same time when I give him a choice, he’s ready to push it further. He’s making me push myself. This character needs an extremism that I didn’t need to really tap into in Peacemaker that I’m tapping into here. Our relationship remains the same, one of enjoyment, mutual love and trust."
"What I'm dealing with is a completely different guy, who, let's just say, is the extreme opposite of Murn in many ways," he continued. "It's a different kind of world and universe. I can't say who I'm opposite the most, but I will say I interact with everyone. I'll give you that nugget. I get to share that love."
It seems naming the character he has the most scenes with might be too much of a spoiler (Rocket, perhaps?), and that use of the word "extremism" definitely has us leaning towards The High Evolutionary. Several other Marvel Comics heroes and villains could fit the bill, though, and it wouldn't be unlike Gunn to play with audience expectations (we still say Silver Surfer is wishful thinking!).
