Square Enix has revealed that their Guardians of the Galaxy game will be released on October 26, 2021 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and we have a first look to share with you!
This looks like it could be a fun ride, but with Star-Lord as the game's only playable character, the likes of Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot will be relegated to supporting status. In some ways, putting the spotlight on Peter Quill does make sense, especially as it looks like certain decisions you make will change how the rest of the Guardians react to you during gameplay.
"Fire up Star-Lord’s jet boots for a wild ride across the cosmos in this third-person action-adventure game, a fresh take on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy," reads the synopsis. "With the unpredictable Guardians at your side, blast your way from one explosive situation to another, with original and iconic Marvel characters caught in a struggle for the fate of the universe. You got this. Probably."
We're not sure how "fresh" this take on the Guardians of the Galaxy is, especially when the Marvel Cinematic Universe inspiration is clear to see (right down to the voice performances).
Along with a trailer, 10 minutes of gameplay has also been revealed. As noted, you'll only be able to play as Star-Lord in the game, and while that looks like a lot of fun, it's hard not to wish we couldn't take control of characters like Rocket and Groot when they're tearing up the place.
