Director James Gunn has confirmed, via Twitter, that his upcoming Marvel space odyssey Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been granted a simultaneous release in China, meaning it will open on May 5 - the same date it opens in the United States.

Back in 2014, the first Guardians of the Galaxy opened nearly two months after the film's U.S. debut to around $30 million in the Middle Kingdom before ultimately earning over $96 million total (about 12% of the movie's total final gross). However, this time around, with a same day release in both the States and China, there's a strong possibility the film, despite opening in over twenty international markets the week prior, has one of the better worldwide openings of all-time. Very early tracking is predicting an opening weekend in the $160 million range, although it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if it exceeds expectations, just like its predecessor.

In addition to the release date news, Gunn has also debuted a new international poster. Check it out below:

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

God, I despise the posters for this movie. I know the MCU is not that great when it comes to posters, but they've been hitting it out of the park with Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Although, now that I think about it, that could be praise towards Sony's marketing team. I don't know.

Nevertheless, I'm still...partially excited.
