Chris Pratt Confirms That GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Will Use James Gunn's Original Script

We had heard that Marvel still planned to use James Gunn's original screenplay for the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie ever after the director's firing last year, and Chris Pratt now appears to have confirmed it.

MTV asked the Star-Lord actor if Gunn's already-completed script was still in play and he said that it was, before adding that everyone thinks it's "off the chain." Pratt also shared his thoughts on moving on to a third GOTG movie without Gunn in the director's chair.

“Well, I love James. I’m loyal to James and I love him so much. And we’re going to deliver the movie and we’re going to give fans the movie they deserve. And I think it’s in the nature of the Guardians of the Galaxy to come together and get the job done. And that’s what we’ll do.”

We still haven't had word on any filmmakers that might be on the studio's radar to replace Gunn in the GOTG Vol. 3 director's chair, but hopefully we'll at least get a shortlist soon. We do know that Taika Waititi won't be taking the helm, and has no interest in the gig whatsoever.

Tell us, are you happy that Marvel is still working off Gunn's script, or do you think they should have went in another direction completely? Sound off in the usual place.

Firing Gunn was a mistake.

Not sure how much of it they are going to use. Whedon's Age of Ultron hinted at a darker Thor Ragnarok and we got Flash Gordon in space instead. Whoever is taking over is going to neuter Vol 3 either way. RIP Gunn's trilogy

@mastakilla39 - that scene teases Asgard (and Asgardians) being in danger. It also teases Thor's power being unleashed. That is exactly what we got in Ragnarok.

@mastakilla39 - I would very much like see darker Thor three movie but it’s marvel only thing they took seriously in there movies where daredevil, blade, punisher no one else all marvel does is make comedy crap in there movies most of it is useless pointless especially in Thor three

@HeavyMetal4Life - That's what they converted his vision into. Waititi's Ragnarok is so drastically different from AOU's setup. Whedon teased a serious end to the Asgard but Marvel & Taikia didn't want to make "that film". Just look at Ragnarok's script & tone its obvious that Taika didn't want to make a serious film. So anything Taika never setup was quickly killed off & breezed over. Odin's death, Warrior 5, etc. Thor is barely in Asgard, he spends almost 80% of the film in Sakaar joking around with Hulk, Loki, & Valkyrie because that was the film Taikia really wanted to make.

Ragnarok is supposed to be a serious film. In the comics it is supposed to be Chris Hemsworth's Logan (his final outing). But we know Disney...Avengers is priority and they are not killing Thor.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yep, and then Thanos showed up and killed a bunch of the survivors. Ragnarok was funny but the outcome is very tragic

@Polaris - that is true

@TyrantBossMedia - It wasn't over 100 tweets, that is a false statement that people who bought into the negative Gunn narrative believed. It was 30 or so tweets, jokes that back then were perfectly fine and common among comedians.

Facts matter.
