American Psycho Remake Ordered by Lionsgate

American Psycho Remake Ordered by Lionsgate

The controversial and violent American Psycho, which originally starred Christian "Batman" Bale, looks to be getting the remake treatment from Lionsgate, who have already hired a writer for the script.

Lionsgate has hired Noble Jones to pen a script for a remake of the modern horror film American Psycho. Noble's only notable credit is Second-Unit Director for The Social Network. The project has not been given a green light however, which could only mean that they would really have to like the story before moving forward.

American Psycho, based on the novel of the same name, was written by Bret Easton-Ellis and, as most of you know, was previously turned into a feature film in 2000. That film starred The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale as Patrick Batemen, a rising business man during the day, brutal serial killer by night. The film, directed by Mary Harron, is a violent mind [frick] like no other, but it is extremely well done. It also pushed the boundaries of what could be accepted in a Rated-R film. The film also starred Reese Witherspoon, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas and Justin Theroux.

It will be very interesting to see if Lionsgate and Noble continue with that same violent pattern, or if they even take it up a notch, now that the MPAA has relaxed some on their ratings, if only just a little.

When the original actor is still of age and capable of playing the same character a remake should not even be a thought in someones mind

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Seriousl, wtf! Why mess with a beautiful thing. "I may have eaten some of his brains." I actually started listening to Huey Lewis and the News after seeing Bale put an axe in Jared Leto's head to the tune of "Hip to be Square" This movie is not old enough to remake it, wait about 30 years, then try it.

Do they have to do this because they are going to reboot Batman after TDKR? I mean, the original was in continuity for Nolan's batman films, right? Bruce Wayne, the lost years.

"It's not a remake, it's just an adaptation of a story."

I get hostile when movies like Oldboy, Let the Right One In, and the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo pop up.... but this is just freakin ridiculous.

WTF?!?! the movie is already pretty new. It came out in 2000. Ok if it was in the 80's or something. Anyways, i'm definitely watching it. I wonder who will play Patrick Bateman this time ? Maybe Christian Bale again, lol.

Maybe they should say they intend for a more faithful adaptation of the book...instead of a "remake", it'll just be another version...

starring Rowan Atkinson..

why the hell do the "brilliant" minds in hollywood keep thinking that remaking movies is the answer to everything.

Fair enough when they update a movie from 1950 but American Psycho? Seriously that movie is a classic. What's next - a remake of Pulp Fiction

Next thing you know, they'll re-do Spiderman 5 years after it's last installment. Wait, this is happening and this IS real life. Screw it. Reboot Lost, Entourage, The Sopranos, The Wire and hell go and reboot Seinfeld too!

And just have it take place in a different city??

musicsuperhero1 - 12/8/2011, 11:53 AM
all i can say is this is just plain stupid. Lionsgate isnt exactly know for their bright ideas but this is one of the dumbest by far. Utterly ridiculous!! I can't echo everyone who has commented before me enough!!
1) the first one is only eleven years old
2) theres absolutely nothing wrong with the first...in fact, its a brilliant piece of cinema and legendary.
3) say what you will about him...Bale understood this part and was absolutely perfect in the role. No one else can touch it.
4) remaking this film is an insult to the original (no one pays any attention to or even knows about the sequel..which is no fault of the first movie)
5) this just seems really desperate and PAINFULLY UNORIGINAL!! ...whoever came up with this idea should be smacked on the hand and told 'NO!' like a little child. ...Then there job be questioned.
