In a recent interview with Den of Geek, actor Bill Skarsgård said that when it comes to the comparisons it may draw to the first, audiences can expect “a very different experience” from It (2017):

"We're gearing up for it now, so I'm sort of in the process of getting back into that character of Pennywise,” said Skarsgård on the line from Sweden, where he lives. “I’m sort of in the mindset and we're gearing up for it. I think they start in July. I'm not sure exactly when my start date is, but some time this summer.

Skarsgård continued by describing how he had been discussing the evolution of the titular character throughout the 27 years between the first and second films:

We're figuring it out, you know… I have a very good relationship with Andy (Muschietti), not only as a director and actor, but also just as a very close friend, so we're having fun with it and we're figuring out what we're going to bring to the table for part two.

With casting already well underway for It: Chapter Two, the film has added a number of notable stars in the past few weeks to play the adult counterparts of the child actors from the first:

James McAvoy (X-Men: Apocalypse, Split) will play the adult version of Bill Denbrough

The adult version of Mike Hanlon is the only remaining member of the Losers' Club left to be cast. Javier Botet (The Mummy, The Conjuring 2) has also been cast in an undisclosed role in the sequel. Andy Muschietti is back in the director's chair for the second insallment with a script from Gary Dauberman (Annabelle). The film is set for a summer 2019 shoot and will arrive in theaters on September 6, 2019.

One of the best R-rated films of the year in 2017, the first installment of the rebooted franchise managed to gross $700,381,748 worldwide. But what can we excpect from the follow up? It will definitely look and feel just a bit different when we pick up 27 years later in the town of Derry, Maine. The Losers’ Club returns to the town to confront the terrifying creature that continues to lurk beneath the city’s streets in the concluding chapter of the saga based on author Stephen King’s 1986 novel.

What do you guys think of the evolution of Pennywise and what are you most excited for in the upcoming sequel?

Wow, my first 'first'. And I believe IT returns every 27 years, not 30.

Man, the adult casting is spot-on. They actually look like grown up versions of their child counterparts. The casting director deserves a medal. I mean, just look at the adult actors for Stanley and Eddie! The adult Stanley even has the same exact lip shape as child Stanley. Holy shit!

@Ragnarocknroll - The actor who plays ben has the same exact cheeks too, even when slimmed down.

I think Chadeick Boseman should get the part of Mike. I know he may be busy with Marvel, but I think he is the perfect type of personality/look to round out the rest of the cast and this film is basically a one-off performance in that it will not be getting another sequel (at least I hope not!) So hopefully the agents can work out scheduling...If they can work out the nightmare that is Infinity War, they can free him up for this!

The casting of the adult versions of the Losers Club is bang on point! Although, I kinda think that Amy Adams would've been a better fit for adult Beverly but that's no big deal really. Bring on Chapter 2!

Chastain looks far too old to play the role. Great actress or not, that’s a fact.
