Review - CABIN IN THE WOODS

A little bit of Cube, Drag Me to Hell, and Daybreakers...and this still doesn't do it justice.

Take the best of any cult horror film and you have Cabin In The Woods. A movie with a title that IN NO WAY suggests what this movie is actually about. It is so HARD to give a review without reveaing what actually happens in this film.

The Basics...
A group of cliche' college co-eds (Jock, Nerd, Slut, Stoner, and Good girl)hop into an RV to go to on a vacation to a cousins cabin in the (remote) woods. Along the way a stop stop for gas at the worst gas station imaginable, with the most inbred attendant possible - also Cliche'. BUT Hey that's how these films ALL start right? From there they make it to the cabin and then this film really gets rocking. I would be remiss if I didn't point out the great boob shot of the hot blonde....any more description or details and I start to spill spoilers.

IF you liked "Drag Me To Hell" you will LOVE this film. This is a film that hits ALL the right notes especially the sense of horror and suspense. This film has one of the most suspenseful scenes that I have ever seen, that had me squirming in my seat...I JUST KNEW something was going to happen...It was intense.

The comedy is pitch perfect too...it's just so unexpected but is the perfect counterpoint to what's on screen. Literally laugh out loud funny.

The trailers give some stuff away...is it aliens? Is it Government? The film does give the premise away pretty fast...but it doesn't really hurt the overall experience. Much like the film "Cube" the campers have to figure out a way "out" but they are trapped and manipulated - even if they make it out then what?

As far as similarities to Daybreakers - If you thought the end of Daybreakers was over the top and awesome...you will piss your pants at the end of this movie.

The only negative I can think of is that this film could have spawned some VERY awesome sequels, or prequels, but the finality of it ruins the end to any film that may come after it. (set before it)

This is a FUN movie that is unexpectedly better than I thought it would be and is now one of my favorite movies this year.

Do yourself a favor and see this film.

This movie was awesome. Such a good change from all the crappy horror movies that have come out the last few years. If you're a fan of horror movies, you won't be dissapointed.

This film has a 93% on RT. The Avengers has nothing to be worried about.

Yes, there will be no more sequels, but this movie is in the same universe as every other horror movie ever made, so it is a pretty good end to the franchise.

My thought on it was that other "death choices" could be made in sequals...I mean since the entire world paricipated as "back ups" then they all don't have to succeed. This one was Zombies...well not just Zombies, Homicidal Maniac Zombie Family, or something like that. The next could have been werewolves or ANYTHING really. The potential was great.

But since the end is THE END literally, I wish it would have gone out with a bit more bang.
