We recently got confirmation that a Scary Movie reboot (though it might end up being more of a "requel") is moving forward with the original creative team of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans back on board.

Fans were hopeful that stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall - who played Cindy Campbell and her best pal Brenda Meeks in the first four movies - would reprise their roles, and both actresses have now discussed their potential returns.

It sounds like Faris and Hall would be interested in returning to the horror parody franchise if given the opportunity.

"I would love to work with Regina again," Faris said when asked if she was involved with the new movie by PEOPLE. "I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!"

"I love that franchise," she went on. "It was like my bootcamp, my beginnings. If there is a high school comparison for my growth experience, those four movies played an important role in my life in terms of teaching me how to use props, teaching me how to fall, how to get hit in the head — how to hold Chiclets in my mouth and then spit them out with blood at a convenient time for the camera."

In a separate interview with TV Insider, Hall was told about her co-star's comments and asked how she'd feel about playing Brenda again.

“Anna is great. I’m just very excited to know that the Wayans, who actually started the project out of their idea, are back on board and at the helm again. I’m excited for them. We’ll see if Brenda is in this new world. I’m thrilled at the possibility that the band could get back together again. That would be fun.”

Keenen Ivory wrote and directed the first two films, while Marlon and Shawn contributed to the scripts and also starred. It's unknown if the brothers will assume the same roles this time.

Rick Alvarez has also been enlisted as a writer and producer along with Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog's Neal H. Moritz.

“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise," said Miramax Boss Jonathan Glickman. "The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

The Wayans added in a joint statement: “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

Most of the Scary Movies performed very well at the box office, taking in north of $896M worldwide through five instalments. The 2000 original was one of the biggest R-rated horror movies of all time back in the day, but by the time the fifth entry had rolled around, audiences seemed to have grown tired of the same recycled jokes.

The Wayans certainly have a lot more material to take aim at for this next movie, but will they succeed in reigniting cinemagoers' interest?

"Defying the very notion of good taste, Scary Movie out-parodies the pop culture parodies with a no-holds barred assault on the most popular images and talked-about moments from recent films, television and commercials. The film boldly fires barbs at the classic scenes from Scream, The Sixth Sense, The Matrix, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Blair Witch Project, then goes on to mock a whole myriad of teen movie clichés, no matter the genre."

This actually has a lot of potential. The sequels past 2 were duds for the most part. Unless you were a big fan of The Naked Gun series (I tend to enjoy them every so often), David Zucker’s Scary Movies paled in comparison to the original 2.

I remember watching A Haunted House and getting that feeling I got when watching the first two Scary Movies.
Now with just a little more than two decades since the first one’s release, they have a slew of horror film material to work with and parody.

I just hope that the Wayans Brothers still know how to keep that humor we enjoyed in their original run.

If any of them don't come back it'll be easy enough to have a joke in the movie that they got fired for controversial tweets or something like that.

I'd have to hear Regina speak because she didn't sound too enthusiastic by text

Good, they were trash without the Wayans.

Aside from the Wayans, all I really care about is Regina Hall and Anna Faris coming back.

They also have the opportunity to do the funniest thing by casting Melissa Barrera. Fingers crossed lol.

I haven’t seen Regina Hall in anything else but I consider her one of my favorite comedic actresses just from the Scary Movies. She kills it.
