"The Cabin in The Woods" Short Review.

A film that is supposed to change a genre, but does it hold up?

This is a film that I thought looked interesting, I thought looked like it might have something under the hood that wasn't clear in trailers or interviews. I want to make it clear, first off- I hate horror films, especially modern horror- it's not scary, modern horror is NOT scary- it's stupid. Cabin in The Woods is not horror, it's mystery, there IS something more to this film than what was shown in trailers, the trailers showed us an agency in a room controlling events happening at this cabin, trying to kill the stereotypical teen for horror films. Let me ask you, are they stereotypical, or is that how they want them to appear? What exactly is the purpose for this agency, why and how are they doing the things they do?

"The Cabin in The Woods" Is fantastic, I thought this film ROCKED, my mind has been blown by the complexity in the plot, but it's quite simple- simple, but complex, it worked. There was mystery and fright, some jump scares- one of which was done on purpose, as a joke by the Director, the beginning of the film is a slow quiet start- then the title of the film pops up with a really loud bang and gives you a jump- if you're a bitch. The mystery is what took over the film, you were shown everything- how it was done, but never told why, never told anything- not until the very end does everything make sense. I would also like to add, that the final act of the film... is one of the most BAD ASS sequences I have seen in a film, for a VERY long time... it was incredible to watch.

This film captured a couple of things right. One, it redefined the "Horror" Genre, two, it was funny- had some good laughs, three, the mystery was outstanding, four, the story was genre breaking. Yes, once again, MY predictions about a film have come true- this movie has broken the barrier for two genres, horror and mystery- absolutely outstanding. Everything in this film builds, it builds and builds and builds, all the way to an ending that I wasn't expecting... at all, I was expecting something kind of like what they had, but not really what they had- what they had was [frick]ing awesome- awesome.

Overall, "The Cabin in The Woods" Was really enjoyable, it was cool, it was fun, just wicked-awesome. I have to give this movie a deserving 8/10 Original ideas.

Awesome awesome review - can't wait to see this. Love the idea. Loved "Evil Dead" and (especially) "Evil Dead 2"! Here is my favorite review from a stone Finnish film critic who absolutely loved it. Infectious.

Nothing like Evil Dead...ED was a brilliantly bad movie with Bruce Campbell it's only redeeming factor.

This movie stands on it's own.

@nhalden,

Understandable reasons to what you said, but one question- what do you mean "stop commenting on your own post as a 'faceless'", Can I not reply to someones comment?
