HULK: Kevin Feige Explains The Leader And Abomination's Absence From The Marvel Cinematic Universe

There's been no sign of The Leader and Abomination since The Incredible Hulk was released almost a decade ago and now Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explains why we've heard nothing from either.

The Incredible Hulk has become the black sheep of the Marvel Studios family and the only character to make it out of that movie (aside from Bruce Banner who is now played by a new actor in the form of Mark Ruffalo) was General Ross and it took eight years for that to happen! It's a shame too as Liv Tyler's Betty Ross was likeable and villains like Abomination and The Leader deserve another chance.

Well, it turns out that Kevin Feige is well aware fans feel like those two bad guys have been wasted and while he doesn't mention a specific place for them to return, they're both still out there...somewhere!

"It is an embarrassment of riches of places we could go or characters we could reprise or bring back now that we’re… I think Ragnarok is our seventeenth MCU film. And you would be surprised how many… it’s come up. It’s come up. Just finding the right place. And as I said, if you can’t do it right, don’t do it or do it later, and the notion of “Hey, I’m here too! Next!” is not interesting to us. Abomination is in a prison somewhere too.'"

A comic book prelude for The Avengers revealed that The Leader was taken into custody so he too is in prison somewhere. The problem is, with no plans for a solo movie revolving around The Hulk, it's hard to say where characters like this could really fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of right now.

Where would you like to see them make their return? As always, sound off in the comments section.

Unpopular Opinion: The Incredible Hulk is one of my favorite MCU movies.

@MrNegative - Interesting, I dont think I've ever heard of someone disliking Winter Soldier. Seems to be the one thing everyone here agrees on.
To each their own though!

@Elayem - Yeah, I like it a lot. It kills me that we never got to see Edward Nortan's Banner with the rest of the Avengers... but Ruffalo is cool too.

@Elayem - I think it is really underrated, but it still is listed near the middle/bottom of my MCU list. I still give it a 7/10 though and it is significantly better than Age of Ultron, the first two Thor film, and Iron Man 2. I think it is a great take on the classic Hulk fugitive stories and it has one of the best hero vs villain fights of any MCU film (and easily the best one of phase one).

@Elayem - It was until so many amazing films have featured after, but I still hold it in very high regard. Never understood the hate, it’s really good. I get that it under performed at the BO, but that doesn’t mean it was a terrible film. Oh well

@Elayem - I'm with you. I don't think there are a lot of people who dislike the movie. It has just kind of been forgotten. It might be my 6th favorite though.

@Elayem - Mine too, but I'm biased because the Hulk is my favorite character.... And I'm old enough to catch all of the Bixby/Ferrigno series references they threw in.

@Elayem - @Elayem - TIH up there for me too my friend. My biggest issue with it isn't the story or any aspect of the film itself -- it involves the infamous shitstorm that led to its controversial/awkward position in the MCU that followed.

See, I loved Ed Norton as BB/Hulk. The problem is, I love Mark Ruffalo in the role just as much -- but for COMPLETELY different reasons. They both nail the part but aproach it uniquely enough I can't really compare them.

There's no point in judging who's the better Hulk actor since Edward never got a chance to do anything like what his successor did. So specifically focusing on Banner, commonalities exist in both performances regarding their respective understandings of the source character... but they both put their own spin own it.

And that's my problem...

It pains me to re-watch TIH and think "what could have been" in both cases... What if Norton was still here? Then we'd never have Mark. What if Mark had the role from the start? I still feel like I'd have been cheated missing Ed's take on it.

I'm torn, and my opinion on this is likely to change given my mood when you catch me but at this moment in time, I'd say, in my perfect little fantasy MCU, Mark plays Hulk from the start -- mostly for continuity sake. BUT, being there's no bad-blood between Ed and Marvel in this world, he ends up playing someone else in the MCU. Not sure who yet... there's are several great options for him. Considering only roles currently unoccupied:

Howard Saint, Green Goblin [or several other Spidey rogues], and Reed Richards immediately come to mind.

Anyway. TIH solidarity, my friend.

But damn. I wish I could enjoy the movie on its on merits.

And for what it's worth, my ranking is quite similar to yours, except:

1.] TWS
2.](Also Tie/No Particular Order) = Iron Man, TIH, GotG1-2(yep)

Avengers would tie for 1st but I'll judge it separately.

They should make a second Marvel studio for more movies that the first studio doesn't have the time to make .

@thunderforce - Will they need to make a third studio to make the films the second studio doesn't have time to make?

I'm still down for having the Avengers disbanded/dead following Infinity War and Avengers 4, so following that with Zemo putting together a Thunderbolts team out of villains in disguise would be great timing, IMO. Abomination would be great there.
MrDandy
MrDandy - 11/7/2017, 11:14 AM
@Chewtoy - Would rather see Zemo create the Masters of Evil first, battle the Avengers, then be defeated and lead the Thunderbolts similar to the comics. It'd make a great arc for him from villain to reluctant hero/ant-hero.
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 11/7/2017, 11:34 AM
@MrDandy - The original "Thunderbolts" were nothing more than Zemo and the Masters of Evil pulling a scam on the world... there was nothing heroic about the creation of the team. Zemo saw that the world was afraid with the Avengers & FF missing and figured they'd pose as heroes and let the world hand them power in the vacuum.

The larger story arc of the team was what writer Busiek termed "the seduction of good"... i.e. that once these villains got a taste of being admired, respected and adored, some would be unwilling to give it up, growing some morals to become the roles they played, while others (Zemo, Moonstone and the Fixer, originally) would not... giving you the classic "good guy in a gang of criminals gets cold feet and tries to get out/stop the plan from the inside."

Zemo already took a swing at the Avengers and lost. Likewise for any existing villain you could end up using. From a narrative standpoint, I think they're already at a point where this plotline could be put into motion (especially as I never see the MCU using the name "Masters of Evil" for a team anyway.)
MyBeard
MyBeard - 11/8/2017, 7:42 AM
@Chewtoy - The team doesn't actually need a name. They could do something like with the "Revengers" in Ragnarok and then have Zemo veto it.

Bringing them back makes little sense narratively.

If making a Hulk trilogy was possible, then I'd be down.

TIH is underrated
