Now I am not sure if this site/article will be allowed to continue since I am not always providing updates on new comic book movies, but I feel like discussing the comics where these movies come from is something important and note worthy. Without promotion and purchasing of new comics the comic book movies we all love will cease to be made. I will have no hard feelings if CBM decides to shut me down and will do so willingly, I love this site. So that being said, lets take a look at The Incredible Hulk.
SPOILER WARNING
(I will keep specifics to a minimum because my goal is to get you all to read the story for yourselves.)
For those of you who have not been following the Hulk, let me tell you about the last little while. I am going to start at an event known as 'Planet Hulk.'
Planet Hulk: The Illuminati (as they took to calling themselves) send the Hulk shooting into outter space with the intention of sending him to an uninhabitat planet where he can no longer hurt anyone and he can be left around. But thanks to an energy stealing worm hole, the Hulk actually lands on a planet called Sakaar, a ruthless warrior planet similar to ancient Rome with its slaves and gladiator arenas. I will not go into all the details but the Hulk is seen by the different races of this planet as their savior and helps them to overthrow their evil, tyranical emperor. This is such a fantastic story for anyone interested in something outside your typical super-hero vs. super-villian involving the Hulk. It is incredibly action packed incorporating both old gladiator style weaponry and armor as well as sci-fi elements into one great story of the Hulk and his company of warriors fighting for survival, freedom, and an end to tyranny. Eventually Hulk decides to go back and take his revenge on the Illuminati (Reed Richards, Black Bolt, Dr. Strange, Namor the Submariner, Professor Xavier, and Iron Man)
World War Hulk: The Hulk returns to Earth with his warriors from Sakaar to wage war on 'all the puny humans'. This story arch crosses over almost every facet of the Marvel Universe, although it is not incredibly long. Many heroes rise against the Hulk and many are also outraged at how the Illuminati treated him and decide to help his cause. This arch is filled with some fantastic battles as well as continues the incredible story started in Planet Hulk.
Skaar: Son of Hulk: This is a new monthly series where we see the son that Hulk left behind (does not know about him, thinks he is dead). This series is 8 issues in and focuses on Skaar and his battles on Sakaar in the same line as Planet Hulk. It is a great series that I hope lasts for a long time. What is quite exciting is that in a few months, Skaar is heading to Earth to fully emerse himself in the Marvel Universe.
Planet Skaar: The new story arch that will beginning in a few months time promises more of the great action and intrigue from the past year and a bit of the Hulk and his son Skaar.
With these hard economic times, it is up to comic book fans to support the industry that we all love by following and purchasing comic series that are worth spending your hard earned money on. These past stories of Sakaar, the Hulk, and Skaar have been fantastic and only look to get better. I beleive that Planet Hulk would make an absolutely crazy live action movie, however do not think anything like it will ever be attempted.
Let me know what you think of this article and my plans for this site. If there is no real interest in discussing the I can definatley find things to write about the upcoming movies in the Comic Book Movie world. However I am currently planning on writing on several upcoming comic events:
- Flash: Reborn - The return of Barry Allen in a similar style to the return of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: Reborn. Looks to be amazing and will bring back one of the greatest people to ever done the red and gold uniform
- Battle for the Cowl - The upcoming event in the DCU featuring many of Batmans friends and foes alike looking to take over the mantle of The Batman. With Batman: RIP, Batman is stuck in the past and is thought to be dead. You can bet that this multi-title event will feature everyone of importance in Batmans world.
So if there is no real interest in news or discussion centered aronund the comics, then I can just focus on the movies. Please let me know what you think.
