"Hulk Vs." - Marvel's New Animated Movie Sticks to Strengths

The latest Marvel animated endeavor reminds viewers why they started reading comic books in the first place... Pure action --pitting power against power!

I first got into reading comics during the Secret Wars series -- when the omnipotent Beyonder gathered up all the various superhumans, both good and bad, to fight for domination. The Secret Wars introduced me to interesting characters that I hadn't known about before, and after that enjoyable experience, I started buying several other Marvel series on a regular basis. That was when I went from casual to hardcore comic book reader.

Before that life-changing event, I had picked up a comic book here and there, usually when I saw an interesting "team-up" that paired favorite characters together. Many times in a team-up book the participants pitted their powers against each other prior to working jointly to defeat a foe.

I mention this because as a kid what really appealed to me in comic books was the comparison of powers, and especially the issues that pitted favorite characters against each other. How would Nightcrawler fare against Spider-Man? Was the Hulk TRULY the strongest there is, or would Juggernaut's mystical might overwhelm him? Could Thor take the Thing? What if he didn't have his hammer? These potential predicaments thrilled my young mind.

The Hulk has always been a good character for this type of storyline. His mythology is unique in the comics universe. At any moment in his story arc he can be a hero, an anti-hero, and even a villain. And even when he's not a sympathetic character you can forgive his trespasses because of whatever his particular circumstances. It's OK that he goes on a rampage when he is obviously not himself. Heck, he may have just been separated from his Bannor psyche! Or, hey, he's the dumb Hulk right now, so you can't expect him to NOT smash the Thing.

This kind of versatile plot capability had spawned some of the greatest comic book battles of all time, and has pitted the Hulk's power against heroes and villains alike. Hell, is there anybody in the Marvel universe that he HASN'T fought?

So, my point is this. When you pick up your copy of HulkVs, which is a two movie set with the Hulk vs. Wolverine and The Mighty Thor, you may recognize what originally brought you into comics as a kid. It plays to that part of you that just wants to see "what would happen if."

"Hulk Vs." is due in stores on Tuesday, January 27th - TODAY!

i just brought the hulk vs dvd home about 40 mins ago. i have to say this is probably the best marvel animated movie yet. the hulk was never my top choice as my favorite hero but this movie kicked ass. although hulk vs wolverine didnt have much of the hulk in it as you would think. it was more about wolverine than anything. i guess its to build up origins. but still the movie did not dissapoint. it had tons of action. deadpool my boy was hilarious i laughed my ass off everytime he opened his mouth. i hope if they do a follow up film of him after origins he is as funny as he was in this. i thought he could have been more aggressive in this movie but maybe thats just me. but overall, two thumbs way up

don't get me wrong I loved Hulk Vs Wolverine, but I could have used an ending. I mean it was only like 40 minutes long anyways, it was barely Hulk vs Wolverine at all. It was more Hulk and Wolverine vs Weapon X. I wanted to see the fight between them at the end

I give Hulk vs an empahtic 2 thumbs up. Deapool was great. I can't wait to see how they pull him off int he Wolverine movie. I did like how the brought Banner to Asgard. Loki was great too. I was pleasantly surprised they put some blood in the battles as well.Watching this definitely made me feel like a kid again. My only complaints were that it could've been a little bit longer, and Thor didn't come off epic or cool enough for me. All in all great flicks well worth a purchase form me.

WOW! I just got done watching the Wolverine part in the movie and I was very, very impressed. This was such a great adaptation of every character in the comics... I really loved Deadpool. I am a big fan and can only say hats off. They did such a great job. He was bad, but more insane and crazy that bad. This would have made Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza proud.

I just wish this movie would have came out sooner so Gavin Hood could have seen this adapation and used some of the comic style in his movie, but hey, he may have seen it and it might be the reason for the re-shooting.... um probably not.

Well I am livid at the squandered potential the Hulk vs. Thor film had. Kyle and Yost seemed so taken by Asgard's depiction and showing as many supporting cast as possible that they failed to give Thor his due. We all know this was Marvel's attempt to introduce Thor to the mainsteam and instead of presenting him as one of the mightiest characters in the Marvel Universe, the majority of his screen time is spent having his @rse handed to him - repeatedly. He literally gets beaten to death in one scene. Sweet, maybe in his live action movie Thor can get beat up on too (showing how much punishment he can take illustrates how tough he is). Kyle and Yost basically let the Hulk have his way with not only Thor but every Asgardian he crosses paths with. Thier excuse is that this is an unfiltered, Bannerless Hulk. News flash, if Thor knew Banner was separated from the Hulk, he wouldn't hold back - he'd be free to unleash his full, unfiltered power as well. Imagine the ridiculously savage, toe to toe battle we could have been treated to. But that would have required that the writer/director cared as much about Thor as they cared about their convoluted, character bloated story. This is truely the softest depiction of Thor to date. The voice actor was totally off and sounded like the thin actor he is in reality - not the 6' 6", Norse warrior god he is portraying. Sif's voice was also weak - she should sound strong and proud but came off as meek even when she was ticked at Amora. The comentary really does add insult to injury because Kyle and Yost honestly believed that Thor fans would enjoy this movie. They were totally clueless that fans who've ben waiting to see Thor and his supporting players break into film would have rathered that never happen than to see them so disrespected. Cameos and eastereggs don't make up for making Thor look like a chump. This was the worst way ever to present Thor to people who are new to him and does the live action film no service at all. Should have been called, "Hulk Whups the Entire Norse Pantheon".

Shibazz- You're right about that battle between the Hulk and Wolverine in Wolverine and the X-Men. A very entertaining confrontation, and I LOVED the ending (won't reveal details for those of you who haven't seen it). If you're a fan of either character, I'd say don't miss that episode if you haven't already watched it online somewhere. On a side note, I'm really enjoying this series. The stories are well written and move at a nice brisk pace, and the voice acting is excellent.

I haven't seen the "Hulk vs." features yet, but do plan to buy it soon, probably over the weekend. Sounds like some good ole-fashioned Mighty Marvel-style action! :o)

Grif- does that 22 page comic with Wolverine and Hulk come with the dvd everywhere or is it one place selling that version? If so, which one? Thanx!

The comic book in the DVD is a reprint of WOlverine's first appearance in the Incredible Hulk # 181 I think from November 1974..

So, I've been a Thor fan for more years than most of you have been alive and was highly anticipating a good animated feature, What a let down! I've never seen Thor portrayed as such a wimp in any of the comics. What a joke! Only the Ultimate Avengers movies were worse.
Even Wolverine was tougher and better portrayed in his movie. All this does is give the Hulk fans the ability to say " I told you so". Time to toss this junk in the trash were it belongs.

I have to agree with HammerOfTheGods..... I dont understand how you could portray Thor the God of Thunder, Odin's Son, and one of the Mightiest and strongest heroes in Marvel like a frickn pussy.... Sure Thor had his one moment when he rallied back in the fight but it was nothing compared to the beating that Hulk gave Thor before and after the Norse God's offensive attack. I mean come on, give me a break, I think Wolverine matched up better and did more damage to the Hulk..... It was also embarassing to see Asgard THE REALM AND CITY OF THE GODS!!!! Where each soldier whether male or female has the strength and endurance of a God and the courage and will of a true warrior willing to die for odin and for Asgard.... Where characters like Balder, Lady Sif, Valkyrie etc... reside, Characters that could give even the strongest midgard (earth) villains a run for their money get tossed aside like a piece of shit... They were all brushed aside like nothing.... I swear i even saw the Demon Surtur (not sure only saw it once) which in the comics even gave Odin a run for his money, and all the rest of Asgards villains that attacked with an army.... And these villains make earth's villains look like faggots.... But one angry Hulk seems to be the most powerful creature ever..... Marvel Ultimate Alliance the game, it took a huge plot and careful planning with hundreds of super soilder monsters not to mention the Masters of Evil (which inluded Dr. Doom, Ultron, Enchantress, Loki, Baron Mordo etc....) to even sack the city...... And at that time Asgard didnt even have Odin, Thor and half of the other Gods that wasnt their... Come on, give me a break and be real.... to be continued (didnt have enough time ill post the rest of my complaint shortly)

Continued.....
Now don't get me wrong I am also a Hulk fan as well..... And you cannot doubt is strength and power as well, and the constant increase in strength that is fueled by more anger and more battles..... And i can see why this Hulk would be stronger that of the normal Hulk because of the good Dr. Banner being seperated from the Hulk, but still as TheHammerOfTheGods mentioned once Thor figured out that it was Loki and not Banner that was controlling the Hulk then Thor would unleash his true power a throw everything he has at the Hulk..... Thor is kinda like superman, true and just and always holds back his power because he doesnt want to truly hurt/kill anyone in his battles but when superman unleashes on Darkseid (Justice League Unlimited) then we see Superman's true strength.... This would be the same for Thor..... Now everyone that doesn't really know the God of Thunder thinks of him as just another Hero who was in the Hulk's way which in fact saddens me since Thor is far more powerful then this movie portrays..... And so is the Asgardians i hope the live action movie or the animated series truly shows off Thor's true power..... My opionion is that they should have showed Hulk getting his ass kicked against the Asgardians at first then of course show him getting angry and gradually beating the Asgardians then Thor shows up, kicks some Green ass and fuels Hulk even more then kicks Thor's ass..... Then Thor finds out that it is Loki that is inside of the Hulk not Banner, then Thor unleashes his fury and goes all out then both would be locked in an epic battles of ground pound and throwing eachother through mountains...... : ) but thats just me...... I still enjoyed the movie but a very poor Display of Thor and his fellow Asgardians....
