BOX OFFICE: Dwayne Johnson Beats Robert Downey Jr. As 2013's Highest Grossing Actor

Robert Downey Jr. only had to star in one movie (Iron Man 3) this year to have brought in the second highest amount at the worldwide box office, but G.I. Joe: Retaliation star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has just pipped him to the post to take the top spot. So, how long until Marvel hire him?

Forbes have published a list of 2013's highest grossing actors at the worldwide box office. This doesn't refer to how much they personally made (although, as you may have already guessed, that IS a list which was topped by Robert Downey Jr.), but instead shows how much the films they starred in earned in total. As you can see, former WWE Superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just managed to beat the Iron Man 3 star, cementing his position in Hollywood as a major draw. Yes, he starred in a total of five pictures, but this is still an amazing result for the actor. Fans have been rooting for him to take on a role in a superhero movie for a while now, and it's news like this which will put him squarely in the sights of a studio like Marvel! Check out the results below and be sure to click on the link at the bottom of the page for an in-depth analysis from the site.

1. Dwayne Johnson - $1.3 billion
2. Robert Downey Jr - $1.2 billion
3. Steve Carell - $964 million
4. Vin Diesel - $887 million
5. Sandra Bullock - $862 million
6. Paul Walker - $789 million
7. Billy Crystal - $743 million
8. John Goodman - $743 million
9. Chris Hemsworth - $701 million
10. Jennifer Lawrence - $700 million

@bluedude

This list isn't for highest paid actor it is for the actor thats movies made the most money this year hence why Billy Crystal is on here he did not make 750 million dollars this year. What this list doesn't show is Rock made 4 movies this year Snitch, G.I. Joe Retaliation, Fast and Furios 6, and Pain and Gain to Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man 3 I think Disney is quite happy with that.

I think his success is fascinating!
A wrestler, turned actor managing to get tons of movies, most of which are box office hits.
I like him, but I don't see him as anything special. He's a very likeable guy.
There's something about him that draws in audiences.

So, can we get these two in a movie and have them bicker about some kind of ranking between them?

Box office grossing, not highest paid.

This is pretty much a good thing to Downey, now he knows that to beat him someone needs to do 5 movies.
Good for Hemsworth, his carer started just 3 years ago
Paul Walker RIP

@CherryBomb- I've been a fan of his for awhile, and the thing is that his wrestling background gave him three things: a honed physique, training in staging fights/stunts, and the ability to play larger than life. This, along with his natural charisma and sharp wit, translate very well to an action star. I think the fact that he's earnest and genuinely wants to entertain has led him to branch out into different genres (look at Be Cool, Gridiron Gang and Snitch for the best examples,) and I believe given the right role he could really impress people (he has said he'd love to win an Oscar one day.)

The Rock has done well and come along way since The Scorpion King, never ever saw him becoming this big after some of his earlier debacles in films.

...the hell?

I love The Rock, but... the hell? I just don't get it.

And I can't think of any major CBM character he'd be right for. Maybe that Hercules movie will change my mind, but I don't think Dwayne Johnson can play anybody but The Rock
