"How Captain America in AVENGERS gave the true meaning behind everything IRON MAN 3"

Contributors: Kobester

Iron Man 3 is Tony Stark's search for the answer to Captain America's question back in The Avengers: "Big man in a suit of armor. Take that away -- what are you?"

Tony had been holding onto his arc reactor chest piece because he thought it defined who he was as Iron Man, which is also why he spent a lot of sleepless nights building and building more armors.

At the end of IM3, with the help of the Extremis formula on Pepper, Tony could use it and also finally let his arc reactor go because he finally understood that Iron Man is the man who "built" the armor (The Mechanic) and not the armor that wears the man.

That similar meaning is also conveyed between Aldrich Killian and the real meaning behind The Mandarin. In other words, Killian was Tony, while The Mandarin was just Killian's suit of armor.

"I am the Mandarin" was what Killian said to Tony during their final battle, which did two things: 1st it highlighted probably Mandarin's most famous line "You'll never see me coming." 2nd it also reverberated the last thing Tony said before the end.

And despite that Tony no longer has any Iron Man suits to wear, it didn't matter anymore because like Tony said in the end of the film even without the armor, "I... AM Iron Man".

P.S.

On a different sidenote, Killian was the human version of The Mandarin's Fing Fang Foom complete with dragon tattoos and fire breath!

This article may just have killed any reason for people to hate the ending of Iron Man 3, unless they just plain hated the movie.

I loved the dialogue piece at the end of the film
"You start with something pure, something exciting, then come the compromises"

People who bitch about Maya Hansen (rebacca hall) saying her arc was crap. She had virtually thw same arc as the Extremis storyline.

I thought the movie was rad. All these Nolanites still bashing MCU. Screw u guys. The movie was way better than any of the batman movies. This movie made sense and didn't have the classic huge Nolan plot holes. IM3 was exciting, challenge the character and laid new ground. This movie was written and directed very well.

This article explains what is pretty obvious. Those who read this and found new information I feel sorry for u stupid mo fos.

The "gold skin" is part of the suit stored in his body. Within his bone marrow I believe. Doesnt make him superhuman nor was he represented as one.

@batz11 Yeah I don't see the point in defending it anymore. I loved it so nothing else matters to me. The only thing that tiks me off is people bashing for stupid reasons. What can we do? Just let them groan.

You should know that Jeremy Jahns really enjoyed the movie. He gave it a rating equivalent to 4 out of 5 stars. Gosh, you're such a turd!

Interesting insight on the subject, and I agree with your points. But I think your stances on Killian still need development; you've got the base of interpretation right, but not really on the points. Personally, I think Mandarin's, "You'll never see me coming," line is simply a hint that literally no one will see him coming, as he all along is indeed not doing anything. Just my two cents, and I believe you could've developed it even more.

One thing, though; Killian is an amalgamation of Iron Man: Extremis' Killian, Mallen, and the Mandarin himself. And if you missed it, one of Mallen's abilities is to breathe fire.

As for the tattoos, I believe it's a representation of Killian's Mandarin embodiment.

Love the article, its pretty much what i figured as i watched the movie, and i read the twist before hand. so many fans get butt hurt but this was a great interpretation. is what i wanted to see? no. but the surprise and way they did it, the amalgamation of fing fang foom, mandarin, etc. was really cool. when i saw killian all glowing with the dragon tattoos, i was like thats frickin cool.

i'm glad someone posted up the shot of Mallen breathing fire!

Fanboys may not like how The Mandarin was treated on screen, but the fantastical element of his 10 rings might have not fit into the bio-tech theme of the movie. I could see why they did that and honestly, The Mandarin isn't a great villain, so who cares??

To everybody who didn't like the movie, I question your ability to judge whether a movie is good or not. I'll swear it by any holy book: modern day audiences and fanboys LIKE to be disappointed. They crave disappointment. That's why you have no problem discrediting this movie, even though the majority of the world agrees it was awesome. People these days are near impossible to please and they don't wanna be pleased either. It's the side-effect of the whole, "your opinion is your opinion and [frick] everybody else" philosophy.

On a side note, I agree one hundred percent with this article. Great job!

way better than any other batman movie? so it was way better than the dark knight? i think not... Funny how people try to defend this film when they messed up mandarin big time who could of been great. But then if you change some like Bane who just doesn't have the venoms but still has the bane character personality fans will bash that because it isn't Marvel. Yea i see a lot of [frick]ing hypocrites around here... And no I'm not a nolanite but a batman fan and the dark knight trilogy is still the best., No other cbm has yet been able to beat nolan batman trilogy. Call me a hater if you want because all I'm doing is pointing out is the truth on this site. The site that will bash anything that isn't made by marvel even if they get a character right but change his costume, but then if marvel changes a character all together people in this site accept it. Because is [frick]ing MARVEL.. [frick]ING HYPOCRITES.

Again, BESIDES The Mandarin, this movie had GREAT comic book references.

Terrorist bombings: In Invincible Iron man, Ezekial Stane uses suicide bombers

Extremis: self explanatory, the formula has about the same effects and Killian and Hansen are both present. As mentioned above, Killian breathed fire like Mallen from the comics.

Pepper Pots in Armor: a nod to Rescue

Iron Patriot: Nod to Osborn's Iron Patriot

Iron Legion: Self explanatory

Hall of Armors: Self explanatory (would have liked to see this more)

Implants in Tony's arms to control armor: although Tony did not inject himself with Extremis in this movie, the implants to control his armor are reminiscent of what he used in the comics along with the extremis.

Ability to remotely control armors: taken from Invincible Iron Man

Removal or Arc Reactor: he removed his arc reactor in the comics too, although temporary.

There are many more things that i can't think of as well. The point is, Marvel Studios made a great movie. Sure they took a risk with the Mandarin, but i'm sure this fits into the overall plan that they are working on. I seriously don't understand why there are so many complaints about the movie.
