More from Director Jon Favreau About Iron Man 2 and War Machine

Director Jon Favreau has been opening up quite a bit lately about Iron Man 2, which is currently in post-production. He recently told MTV Splash Page:

"We introduce Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and she has a dual identity, so that ends up affecting both the superhero side of things and the personal side of things—as I think all good superhero plotlines do."

"Then we have Don Cheadle. We've upped Rhodey's significance in the film and now I think the cat's out of the bag about War Machine, so he's in that suit. How does he become War Machine? What's his relationship to Iron Man?"

"We also have Mickey Rourke and we have Sam Rockwell, two of the best actors of our time. We really have an embarrassment of riches,"

"Now it's up to me as a director to make it all come together, and to also have a light enough touch so that people who just want to go see a fun summer movie will go. I think Iron Man delivered on that. My kids who don't really know the comics and are young were able to go and enjoy the first one and I want to make sure Iron Man is a movie that won't insult grown-ups' intelligence but will also be appropriate for kids."

Umm...Faveau says a whole lot of nothing here, doesn't he?

I just feel like he keeps shying away from talking about cheadle as war machine. Why is that? In the ET set visit, Cheadle was shown for less than a minute. Why is that? Trying to hide something, Marvel?

STRANGMANN @ That would be cool! MANDARIN needs a shot at the movies!

MARIO @ Good eye, i still like the original guy better, but hopefully CHEADLE is good enough for the part.

HA!!! Love that last part: " I want to make sure Iron Man is a movie that won't insult grown-ups' intelligence but will also be appropriate for kids"

Basically he's saying he doesn't want to make a Bay of himself LOL :P

I have the strangest feeling that Iron Man 2's last scene will set up Mandarin for the third movie.

@Shaman
Amen to that! I like Bay as a director and totally have faith that he can create some of the most epic action sequences in this hemisphere......
But, his idea of "good clean fun" is not appropriate for kids. I pray that he changes that in Transformers 3.

Jon Favreau is the best director the likes of which I have ever known.

He has competition from James Cameron, however.

Fav isn't my favorite director of all time, but he's close!

And he's definitely my favorite CBM director.

Of course Nolan is close and Raimi WAS....until Spidey 3....I'm still hoping he'll make up for that with 4. :)

It seemed that last part about not insulting adults' intellegence and kids being able to watch it is a direct attack towards Michael Bay's philosophy on movie making...which is SUCKING.

ASSASSIN666 - 10/15/2009, 2:09 PM
OSCURO- Bay? Epic? Spectacular? I see clearly that you spent your time between the short bus, and facing the corner of the class room. Let me guess a relative of supermike, or just a new breed of moron?

woah woah woah.. waitaminit..

Is this Supermike? "Oscuro"? Really?

Talond, do you honestly think so?
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 10/15/2009, 3:56 PM
I don't know... how would Supermike know to use the cover art for Future Kill, which began life as a painting by HR Giger?

On the other hand he misspelled his bloody screen name, which is highly supermikish. I think he might have been trying to say "Obscuro" lol
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/15/2009, 4:16 PM
@ MULDER

i don't know, buddy, i think assassin and talontd are on to something. i've noticed "oscuro"'s posts in other articles, and he does seem VERY supermikey. i'm just waiting for him to call someone's baby ugly. his grammar isn't just bad, its very similar to supermike's. and he just says the same kind of things. he just needs to say, "if this were japn animay it woodbe cool"

and bravo on the HR Giger!!!!
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 10/15/2009, 4:35 PM
LOL!! And Bravo to you on the perfect approximation of Supermike language, Corndogburgler.

I am just waiting to hear the inevitable comment about how no comic books should be made into movies. That one used to annoy me pretty badly
