Hello CBMers!!!
After watching a film in multiple viewings, my opinions on them become more defined and clear. These reviews entail three parts: the good, the bad, and the questionable. After the compilation will come the final grade for the film.
Iron Man 3
What's it about?
This is the third installment to Marvel Studios incredibly successful Iron Man Trilogy. This one follows Tony Stark post Avengers. Tony is suffering from PTSD and is having trouble coming to terms with being with girlfriend Pepper Potts and being Iron Man as well. He continues to tinker and upgrade his "robot" suits, but an attack that almost kills his friend leads him into action. A terrorist called Mandarin is making several threats, and Tony makes things personal, challenging the Mandarin to come after him. Meanwhile Pepper falls into a trap set by former colleague of Stark, Aldrich Killian. Killian has developed the " Extremis" virus, which gives people several superpowers like indestructability and fire manipulation. Now Tony must take on these duel threats in a battle to save Pepper and put an end to the evil Mandarin.
The Good
• Basics. The film features Tony using the suit less often. He even has to build some weapons from scratch in a sequence familiar to the cave scenes from the first Iron Man. Tony finds himself relying on the thing that actually makes him super heroic, his intelligence and wit.
• Acting. Wonderfully acted, Robert Downey Jr. has Tony Stark down to the atomic level. Ben Kingsley is perfect and charismatic in his somewhat dual natured role. And everyone else puts in a great job as well. Supporting actors put in a great job as well, Guy Pearce was menacingly good.
• Action/Effects. Top of the line action sequences throughout, particularly an intense airplane rescue scene. The actual "Iron Man" has never looked better, all of them in fact. Outstanding ending...
• Ending. The ending action scene is simply stellar. Its exhilarating and captivating, you see an army of Iron Men go to battle. The ending also stood out, it services as a very fitting finale to the Iron Man story as a whole.
• Personality. It was actually unique in the way they establish a "character" for one of the suits.
The Bad
• Clunky. Many parts of the story seem contrived and forced. An odd prologue to establish back story. Iron Patriot's involvement comes of as a little out of place, not very developed. Much of Pepper's involvement was too convenient.
• Villains. Aldrich Killian felt very rushed and generic. His soldiers and the way their powers operate might leave you scratching your head.
The Questionable
• What is she supposed to do with that bunny?
• How can you like that show Happy?
• You did know that watch was a limited edition, right?
• Which team was he rooting for?
• Where will Tony live now?
In the end
An absolute proper and well made finish for the Iron Man trilogy. Many have decried the twist, but it's handled well and gels completely with this story. Great to see them return to a lot of the elements that made the first Iron Man enjoyable. Overall the film is funny, exciting, and enjoyable.
