Filming for the upcoming movie
John Carter Of Mars has been going on in both Europe and currently the U.S. for months now, yet this film is continuing to fly under most peoples radar. Sporting a cast that includes Taylor Kitsch, Mark Strong, Lynn Collins, James Purefoy, Willem Dafoe, Bryan Cranston, Ciarán Hinds, Dominic West, Samantha Morton and Thomas Haden Church and directed by Andrew Stanton, you would think it would be attracting some attention.
The film is based on the Edger Rice Burroughs novel and Marvel Comics series
John Carter Of Mars about a Civil War veteran who finds himself transplanted on Mars surrounded by fantastic creatures and a beautiful princess.
JCOM was lucky enough to get an online interview with the star of the film Taylor Kitsch, below is a portion of the interview....
JCOM: Originally published in 1912 by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the Barsoom book(s) the film is based on aren't on most people's radar. Did you know about the story when you were offered the role? What attracted you to the part?
Kitsch: I only knew of or informed myself about it when I heard there was interest in me playing or reading for John Carter. Then of course you take as much as you can with the scenes given for the read. I love being under the radar.
What attracted me was Stanton and his vision and of course a story that has never been told, plus to be in a character driven adventure.
JCOM: Since then, have you researched the books, and was it helpful in understanding and portraying the character?
Kitsch: Yeah, I definitely have gone through books but did put them down when starting work with the script which has more depth in regards to John Carter’s background.
JCOM: There must be alot of running around with your shirt off. Did you have to buff up much for the film?
Kitsch: Ate nothing but fast food, Chinese and pizza in prepping ;)
JCOM: Because of the lower gravity on Mars, John Carter could leap over 40 feet. There must be alot of wire work involved. Do you do any of the stunt work yourself?
Kitsch: I definitely do as much as I possibly am able to do. A lot of who John Carter is comes out in his fights, so of course I do as much as possible. The action in this is very intense and I love that.
JCOM: What can you tell us about your costume and the props? Are they as described in the books?
Kitsch: The costume/props are as close to or better than the books.
