There's a rumor doing the rounds that we might be getting our first look at some footage from Todd Philips'
Joker movie very soon, and the director has further fueled speculation with a new official production still he shared to Instagram tonight.
The black and white photo features star Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, before he dons the clown face-paint and assumes the mantle of The Joker. No context for the image is provided, but from the looks of things he's watching a VHS tape (the chunky lumps of plastic we watched movies on before DVDs, kids) fairly intently.
The accompanying caption reveals that Philips is still in the editing phase, but that doesn't mean he hasn't found time to cut a little something together as for us. Keep an eye on CBM for updates over the weekend.
Though specific plot details remain under wraps, we've been able to piece together a few things from the plethora of set photos that have found their way online. Speculation aside, though, it looks like the the film will indeed take influence from Alan Moore's
The Killing Joke in its re-imagining of iconic DC villain as a failed stand-up comedian who has "one bad day" that pushes him over the edge.
Joker also stars Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro and Marc Maron, and is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2019.
