DREDD Blu-ray Trailer

DREDD Blu-ray Trailer

The misfire of Dredd in theaters is a little baffling but nevertheless, the film is hitting dvd and blu-ray on January 8th. Don't make the same mistake twice, this is a comic book movie that you definitely want to check out.

Dredd had a rumored budget of $50M and has so far earned a combined box office gross of $30.9M. It's safe to say that we probably won't be getting a sequel, which is a shame because it was one of the better action films of the summer. The film has yet to premiere in Japan so if it can still earn a bit more but the odds of the film turning a profit or even matching its budget are low. Rectify your previous mistake if you didn't see the film in theaters, pre-order your copy by clicking HERE.

Dredd is a 2012 British science fiction action film directed by Pete Travis and written by Alex Garland. It is based on the 2000 AD comic strip Judge Dredd and its eponymous character by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. Karl Urban stars as Judge Dredd, a law enforcer given the power of judge, jury and executioner in the vast dystopian metropolis of Mega-City One that lies within a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Alongside rookie Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), Dredd is forced to bring order to a feared 200-story slum and its resident drug lord, Ma-Ma (Lena Headey).

Garland began writing the script as early as 2006, although development of a new Judge Dredd film adaptation was not announced until December 2008, that would be unrelated to the 1995 film adaptation Judge Dredd. Principal photography began in November 2010, with an estimated $45 million (US) budget. The project was shot using 3D cameras throughout on practical sets, and on location in the South African cities of Cape Town and Johannesburg. Dredd was released on 7 September 2012 in the United Kingdom. It is scheduled for release worldwide on 21 September 2012.

Running Time: 1hr 35 min
Release Date: 21 September 2012 (USA))
MPAA Rating: R
Starring: Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey
Directed by: Pete Travis
Written by: Carlos Ezquerra (characters), Alex Garland (screenplay), John Wagner (characters)

It was a very good movie and I am surprised that it did not do better in the theaters. If you haven't seen this movie then I suggest you do. It was one of the better action movies of the year. A definite Blu-ray purchase for me!!

I wish I had got the chance... But nine if the theaters near me were playing it. I was extremely disappointed. I hope it sells a lot on DVD/Bluesy so that we can get a sequel. That's what happened with the Punisher (But Jane didn't like the script, so we got Warzone instead) also... Doesn't the cover look similar to the Punisher Warzone cover?

?? it wasn't that good, it went through all the typical stops of a regular throwback "r" action movie. nothing new, nothing out of the ordinary. The 3D was lackluster too :(

Definitely one of the better movies I have seen in a while. I'm buying and supporting this.

The violence was utilized splendidly.

It was realistic and sometimes over the top ; whereas, most movies these days have violent scenes that were over the top and sometimes realistic.

3d was classy and made sense.

This was like watching the original robocop again. Just straight-up cool!

@Starlight - Here you go

Dredd (2012):

Production Budget = $50 million
Domestic (USA) Box Office = $13,414,714
Foreign (International Territories) Box Office = $17,517,232

Worldwide total = $30,931,946 (released in 42 Countries)

OK movie, decent performances for its budget and a far better film than the Stallone effort on the whole but overly violent, weak plot, weak screenplay and uninspired costume and set designs exposes its limited budget appeal to audiences worldwide.

Good but ridiculously overrated!

CBM of the year!

The 3D was fu.cking excellent, I was and still am (to a degree) a 3D naysayer but DREDDS 3D really impressed me.

It makes The Avengers look like a sugary, brightly coloured, shiny kids film and TDKR look like a solemn, grey wanna be chin stroker.... A bigger budget and we'd get something really special, but alas that aint gonna happen coz people dont know whats good for em.

Tut fu.cking Tut

Nobody ever asked the question "is there a demand in America for a Judge Dredd film?"

The character has little presence in American mass culture because its spot was claimed by Robocop.

Dystopian future? Check.Sarcastic sendup on the violence and excess of American commercialism/capitalism/media culture? Check.

All were borrowed by Verhoven's classic 1987 film.

Nobody made the case why American viewers who wern't already comic book nerds should shell out big bucks to see this film in 3D.

This film should have been promoted as based on the character that inspired Robocop and was part of the same 80's British comic book creative movement that brought films based on the us the works of Frank Miller and Alan Moore such as Watchmen,300,Sin City.

Look for the Robocop remake to make more money when it comes out in 2014.
