First Look At Dredd's Mega City 1

First Look At Dredd's Mega City 1

Check out the first set pics from Dredd, featuring shots of the lovely, scenic Mega City 1..

The shots from the Cape Town Civic Centre set came in from a scooper over at Bleeding Cool. As you can see, these suggest that this Mega City will be distinctly less sci fi looking than the sprawling metropolis of the Stallone movie, and indeed the comic. But its just a few close up shots of course, and far too early to tell at this point. Does seem to be going all out on that realistic take to me though!. Good or bad thing?

this looks like its gonna be a fun comic film...miles ahead of the 90s one....I wonder what the story is?

quick note: Urban confirmed that he will not remove the helmet at all...keeping true to the comic and character

I HEARD a while ago it's about Dredd and some new rookie getting stuck behind enemy lines so to speak and they have to make there way back to HQ or something. Again that was a few months ago so who knows.

Something that just occurred to me that would be cool and different...have the film COPS style. Where a camera just follows Dredd around for a few days while he is on assignment....IDK, just a thought that sounded cool to me.

I AM THE LAW!

That never gets old to me. I've always been a fan of grounding a comic book and making it "fantastic in a real world" where you're still having stuff that couldn't happen in reality but you make it damn close to believable.

Uh... doesn't all this look... low budget??? I could be wrong but this and the outfit Urban had on the other day... it all feels a tad under budgeted. Urban still looked great and all, just not spectacular like Stallone's film looked. I mean, of course Schneider was annoying and Stallone didn't have his helmet most of the time. The film still LOOKED awesome.

That looks very...uh...normal! Still, this movie is looking great so far IMO and I'm looking forward to it regardless of the fact that I've never read a Judge Dredd comic book. Great find ROR!

Me too Josh! never read a Dredd book in my life. They just never appealed to me i guess. But i loved Stallone's film and this one looks decent so far.

I don't know about what they plan on doing from just this one building. The place does have the feel of the cult classic Metropolis to it.

JacksonVegaIII- "I hope its more 'blade runner' than what these sets suggest. I really dont want to see them attempt a 'Nolan' and create a world not very far from our own as he did with Gotham (which worked great for batman but not for Dredd). I want them to get the dredd comics on film as Rodriguez did with Sin City and Snyder did with 300 and watchmen."

I SECOND EVERY WORD OF WHAT I COPY/PASTED FROM YOUR COMMENT!!! AMEN!!! :))

I'm liking how this is coming together.

Megacity 1 needs to be a cross between Gotham City and Blade Runner...in some of the first ever descriptions of the city it states 'Science had progressed far beyond the imagination of simple 20th Century Man!!'
This just looks like some run down council estate!! Hope this improves....

What do you guys expect the buildings to be made of holograms or something? It's just a couple of shots of doors.
Shaman
Shaman - 11/25/2010, 8:44 AM
sylon- Yes well architecture plays a great deal in the film's setting, style and atmosphere. These are "meh". And yes, holograms would be nice. It is supposed to be in the year 3000 something, in'it? Of course there could be a great deal of CGI that will come into play later on. We'll see what the finished product looks like soon enough.

I read the script, and its pretty cool. Miles ahead of the Stallone movie.

Are they actually going to use that script they had on CBM several months ago? If so it should be a good Judge Dredd flick.

why people worrying these are images of buildings even Stallone version of Judge Dredd had realistic buildings and futuristc buildings.

@Shaman

yes this movie is low budget 45 million. but it does not mean the movie wont be good.

Anyone got the link for that script? Please? Anyone? As for the look...meh. It's way too early to tell. @Zayers-I liked that idea you had for the COPS style...other than the shaky camera bit. That can get a bit nauseating after awhile. Otherwise...loved the idea!

One more time...link anyone? I love reading the scripts, regardless of whether that's the one that's used or not. I read the 1989 Batman script written by Sam Hamm a year or so before the movie actually came out and it was pretty different from how the film ended up. Examples...Robin made a brief appearance, Batman breaks his arm or leg (can't really remember, that's been over twenty years ago) and ends up commandering a police horse to try to catch up with the Joker near the end and then eventually, ends up at the cathedral like the filmed version.
STOOPUDR
STOOPUDR - 11/25/2010, 10:00 PM
Preacher, I still have a copy of that same script. Its the same as the movie up to Vicky Vales apartment, then Bruce Wayne gets tyed to a chair and breaks it by flexing his muscles (obviously before Keaton was cast)... Horse with a stocking...Robin...etc. Much better than the actual movie in my opinion.

I have read the Judge Dredd books, and they are great. They should do the Judge Death storyline it was very good. The Stallone movie was OK, but bairly Dredd. I remember hearing that Shwartzaneger was considered and think he would have been better. I thought Jason Stathom would have been great for the role. I cannot wait to see this movie, but I have low standards. Any CBM is worth watching, even if just to have something to compare to my imagination.

It has to be ultra violent in order for it to work. I don't want to see kids or dogs as sidekicks. If that is in the script the movie will not work. I want sick twisted villians and fine ass women in my Mega City!
