Will Karl Urban Be Judge Dredd?

Will Karl Urban Be Judge Dredd?

Bleeding Cool have received word that the Star Trek actor and fanboy favorite has been offered the role of Dredd in the upcoming reboot...

News on this movie has been slowly leaking out. We know its going to be a lot darker, grittier and more faithful to the satirical 2000 Ad comic character than the previous Sly Stallone movie was and last week we got a glimpse at the "rumored) plot details which was described as "16 Blocks like", with Dredd and new partner Judge Anderson trying to get from A to B while a riot rages in Mega City 1. Not sure I like the sound of that..anyway...

Well, Bleeding Cool now understands that Karl Urban will be offered the role of Judge Dredd in the new movie. Or at least Judge Dredd’s chin. Because one of the main provisos of the deal is that, just as in the comic, Judge Dredd will not remove his helmet. But of course that chin will now be seen in glorious three dimensions. And, contract willing, Karl Urban is of a mind to accept it.

I hope this is on the level and Urban accepts, he may not have the exaggerated chin of Dredd, but otherwise I think he would do a great job. Urban is best known for playing Eomer in LOTR, and more recently Dr "Bones" McCoy in Star Trek. We will see him next in another CBM, <><>, opposite Bruce Willis and a whole host of great actors.

Isn't Dredd supposed to be a HUGE dude?

I like Urban, but can't imagine him in this role...

He's not supposed to be particularly big really if you go by the comics..tall yes but not jacked up.

I can see him as DREDD, him, Ray Stevenson or Gerard Butler!

@LEEE777: I second that and agree completely with Gerard Butler too. i mean he has definitely proven he can get jacked for a physical role.

Not a character I really care about but Urban seems like a decent choice. :) LEE's choice of Gerard Butler would be awesome though IMO.

Hopefully it doesn't turn out like Sylvester Stallone's film and be worth it.

I like Urban. But......He is NOT DREDD in any way, shape or form. I'm pumped for this film but they need to get it right.

Well, I hope that nobody is actually Dredd..or there is one sick bastard out there! Dudes a good actor, he will PLAY Dredd just fine I'm sure.

Taboo, this won't be a remake, that last movie was Judge Dredd in name only. This one is (apparently) going to be closer to the comic, which is insanely good.

Even though I like him as an actor, I don't see him as Dredd. I always WISHED that Clint Eastwood would play that part but I guess he's too old now. Other than that, I think Ron Perlman would be an awesome Dredd. If not him, Clancy Brown could be cool.. IMO. ;o)

@ majinlogan: That was hilarious.

@ Tea: Thats why I got rid of the curtains. And an iffy must be some kind of vile way of masturbating. Or a European pastry. You would know you live out there.

@ Erickz: Tab is hot but I'll get an "iffy" in another 2 years when I know I won't be on NBC for doing so.

I Think Carl could pull it off though I would much rather see Jeffery Dean Morgan or Gerard Butler. Ray Stevenson would rock too.

Hell No to Gerald Butler! He doesnt have the face for Dredd. Dont get me wrong I like that dude in action movies and he is talented actor but hellz no.
Karl Urban I could see as the Judge. I like Ray Stevenson as well. I still like Stallone! To bad he is so [frick]ing old. Im exicted hope this movie rocks.
