Can a Justice League movie work for 2013?

Today, we have the news that Warner Bros. is working on a script for a Justice League film, but with Batman "reinvented". Is this the right thing to do with the Caped Crusader?

Before I begin my main topic, I'd like to give my answer to the question that's been hitting fan boys since last night: Can a Justice League movie be a success so soon, without even films on Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, etc. being out yet? I believe, as many do, that 2013 sounds way too soon. I was thinking that 2014 at least would be a good year. Despite this, I'd like to point out that many DC properties (Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow, etc.) aren't near as well known as Superman or Batman, so can they carry their own films without being previously displayed on the big screen with heavyweights? I'm thinking that a JLA film before Flash, Green Arrow, etc. might work better because it can introduce the general public to these characters. Many would pay to see Superman or Batman on the big screen, and would DEFINITELY pay big bucks to see just those two together. That said, I believe that a JLA film would be a success merely based on Supes and Bats' popularity, especially if it's Nolan's Batman.

Which brings me to my original topic: Should Batman be reinvented after The Dark Knight Rises? I think a Batman reboot will always be inevitable, but I'd say wait 7-10 years at least before releasing one. It's a fan boy's dream to see the current Batman team up with other Justice League members in an all-out action packed film. Why fix what isn't broken? I recently read that one of the reasons a Justice League movie was canceled in 2008 was because of their using a different version of Batman while Nolan's Batman saga was breaking box office records. With The Dark Knight Rises coming out in 2012 and supposedly Justice League a year later, it sounds sort of like deja vu to me. To sum it up in a nut shell: bring Christian Bale back into the Batsuit. Even if that means paying Nolan a heck of a lot of $$$ so he can direct it...or at least be involved somehow.

As we all know, The Avengers is doing something never seen before in CBMs: crossing over various films/film series into one epic film. From what everyone's been saying concerning the script, it looks to be a HUGE success, more likely with the critics. I've always believed that, after Avengers, Warner Bros. will be so interested in rivaling Marvel, that they would obviously do the same thing with their DC properties. Adding to the first paragraph, I'm confident that a JLA movie will make much more money than Avengers, based on only Batman and Superman. None of the Avengers (unless you count Spider-Man, a New Avenger member) are near as popular.

Finally, I'd like to address whether or not there should be cameos in future movies (like TDKR, Man Of Steel, etc). I saw someone mention that Bruce Wayne could be interviewed by Clark Kent at the end of MOS, and I believe things like this would make wonderful easter eggs to a JLA film. I also believe that the Superman cameo edited from the Green Lantern script should've stayed in there.

Well, that's what I have for now. Feel free to shout our your opinion(s) in the comments below. Guess we'll see how this movie moves forward within the next few months or so.

i definetly agree! good one. hopefully it is soon as 2013 and it doesnt feel rushed. competition against Marvel's Avengers would definetly be a Warner/DC thing.

2014 sounds good to me and please no Darkseid and not too many team members; Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash would do. Maybe Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter. NO to Aquaman. Wouldn't want him fricking things up.

dc needs to introduce the characters first, then give us a justice league movie.

they rush it & it will turn out shit.

-flash
-wonder woman
-aquaman
-superman sequel
-batman reboot
-green lantern 2

then a justice league movie, but honestly i can't see this movie happening.

dc doesn't like to take risks.

I don't see this happening with the current casting line ups.

I think it can work but first thing they have to do is put the Wonder Woman TV Series into the Smallville Universe because to me that is the only way this franchise can work is using that Justice League Team. You can't combine the current movie franchises because they were designed to be separate.

@Marvel72. "DC doesnt like to take risks". You realize it isn't DC's fault, right? Warner Brothers owns them and they are the reason it takes so long to come up with superhero films. And I dont blame them, they took risks with Shumacher and that Catwoman movie, and failed. Even Superman returns was disappointing. I think they are being cautious. They made a smart move by waiting for The Avengers to come out and see how they do and make a better JL film by raising the bar. Im a Marvel & DC fan. If you're another one of those Marvel zombies that don't even consider characters of other comics, you are seriously missing out.

The only way I would watch a "reinvented" Batman after the amazing films Nolan has made to resurrect the Batman franchise, would be a film set in the future. A live-Action Batman Beyond, Or an older Batman like The Dark Knight Returns

I've said it before and I will ay it again. Reinventing the Batman franchise is a bad idea after Chris Nolan has taken it this far. It be a slap in the face to the fans, because Nolan will have introduced all these villains that in a year or 2 these versions of them will be irrelevent. Warner Brothers needs to wisen up and try to continue Nolan's series with another director. Hell, maybe Nolan can soften the blow and produce it. Also, I would love to see Christian Bale show up in JLA and more Batman movies, but I think he is looking for a way out. And once Nolan goes, so will he. That does not mean that you can not do more of Nolan's vision without him though. Just recast him and make it damn good casting. Just acknowledge what has come before and make sure the new guy can seem like he's been through what Batman went through under Nolan's direction and we all win.

I WONDER IF WB ACTUALLY DOING ADMITTING THE SUPERMAN SCENE IN WITH THE GL.....PERHAPS THIS IS PART OF WHY WE HAVENT SEEN MORE GL STUFF??? ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS THROW IN A RED/BLUE BLUR IN THERE SOMEWHERE SWOOPING ACROSS THE SKY AT SOME POINT IN THE FOOTAGE AND THEN THEY COULD STILL HAVE CAVILL DO A CK SCENE IN THE GL MOVIE. IT SEEMS PLAUSIBLE.

.....AND IT WOULD BE SILLY IF NOLAN FINALLY DIDNT USE AN EASTER EGG AT THE END OF HIS BATMAN TRILOGY FOR SUPERMAN. REINVENTING BATMAN IS A HORRIBLE IDEA IN MY OPINION. AT THIS RATE IT WILL BE DECADES BEFORE WECAN GET ANYTHING SIMILAR TO WHAT MARVEL IS DOING WITH REGARDS TO CONTINUITY AND A TEAM FILM.

You have got to remember that since we just heard about these JLA movie plans, which means they are in the early stages of writing the script, and that we never even received a date probably means a 2013 release date would be unrealistic. Actually I would venture to say a 2015 release date from what we heard. Also, a The Flash film is in the works and has an official script, so I assume that that movie will come out in 2013, and an Aquaman film has been announced, in a similar way to the JLA movie, and the Aquaman film was set for a 2014 through 2015 release date. If your taking this JLA annoucement as fact then why not take the already confirmed The Flash movie and the (just as much confirmed as the JLA movie) announced Aquaman film as fact.

Oh and, Batman being rebooted is a terrible idea, in my opinion.

@ superman17

i read books from both companies,dc i read green lantern, flash, brightest day & whatever the event storyline is i.e 52,blackest night, final crisis & so on.

but i prefer marvel.

as for movies dc/warner has only tried three of its main characters since 1979.

-superman(five films with one on the way)
-batman(seven films since 1989-2012)
-green lantern

come on give us some more, don't keep rebooting superman & batman.

Ok ok ok, seriously people does it really matter? We have no control over any of this! I would like to point out that WB has stated that DC COMIC BOOK MOVIES are their new way of makIng money now that HP is almost done.

It's March, almost April of 2011. That being said, if the script is done by Christmas, the director is picked by January- Feburary, and the cast is set and ready to go by May at the latest, then a 2013 summer is not far fetched at all. He'll TDKR hasn't begun filming and won't until May this year and will be out by next summer. Superman starts in August and will be out by next winter. So why couldn't it be feizable to have a JL movie scripted, casted, and a director in the next year? Haha most actors would kill to be in such a huge movie, I have no doubt that the cast will come together pretty easily.

Oh and simply put, Batman, Flash, and wonder woman would be made after. Just because Marvel made their movies a certain way, doesn't meant that's the only way to make a movie like this. People know of all three of those characters, no need for origin movies before. Go ask people to name you who's in the JL and most people will say Batman, Superman, wonder woman and the flash, even Aquaman will come up

i think with characters like the justice league who have been very popular for decades its not necessary to introduce everyone first being that they are all common house hold names. not saying it wouldnt hurt. i also think everyone should be recasted. nolans batman would never fit into jla and reynolds may be too expensive (maybe not i really dont know). if it happens i hope they dont try and gring it into the "real world" like marvel.

You are totally right! That's why I said NEXT winter, as in 2012. If it were this winter unwound have said this winter, as in the winter that's happening this year. Sorry I'm fom Texas, maybe we talk a little different around here than everyone else...

Sorry if that sounded douchey. I meant only to clarify.

@luckylu: Why wouldn't Nolan's Batman not fit into the JLA? Nolan just doesn't want his version of Batman to be in the JLA although his version COULD be in the JLA.
luckylu
luckylu - 3/29/2011, 6:46 PM
@golden123- for starters, nolans batman is based in a world where he is the only super hero. he also just really wouldnt fit in. when placed side by side to superman, flash, aquaman, and others he would stand out like a sore thumb. I also think that he is set in a "too realistic" world (forgive my wording buts its the best way i can refer to it).

on batman being rebooted though i have no problem with it. i dont think it should be right away but after about 10 years why not? he has been rebooted many times granted some were good and some were bad but honestly nolans batman would get boring after 3.

Marvel72. Its ok to prefer one over the other, my point was that some people take it too seriously. Im a DC fan, but I also have a great respect for what Kirby and Stan Lee have created. Spiderman and Hulk are my favorite Marvel heroes. They have a great mythology. I just wish that some people had the maturity to love heroes from different comics instead of being biased.

SirEdwardIV - 3/30/2011, 8:20 AM
@Xenix- That is not true. Justice League: mortal did include Superman and Batman. Superman was going to be played by Scott Porter and Batman was going to be played by Armie Hammer. (The best choice for the next rebooted Batman series. The guy's perfect)
And I KNOW I'll get some hate for this, but Christian Bale is not Batman. Come on, guys. This is supposed to be a website for comic-fans too. Christian Bale plays a normal man in a realistic world who fights crime. Nolan's movies are like Kick-Ass on steroids.
Batman is NOT a realistic character. Yes, he doesn't have super-powers. But he's at the peak of human ability. He battles reptilian-men, aliens, "gods", etc.
Batman needs to be rebooted. With Snyder's Superman coming out, we need a Bats that lives in the DC Universe. Not one that lives in ours.

Is there a difference between REINVENTING and REBOOTING? which either way i think is a bad idea.
PaulRom
PaulRom - 3/30/2011, 11:35 AM
@BlueMex I'm pretty sure it's the same thing.
golden123
golden123 - 3/30/2011, 12:30 PM
@BlueMex: It's basically the same thing although you can reinvent a character and his mythos without rebootin the franchise and vice versa but that would be an unlikely decision. Rebooting is starting a new series that isn't connected to the old series while reinventing is changing the way things were and giving a new direction for things. The old Batman series was reinvented when they changed directors but it wasn't rebooted.
