ComicBook Accuracy: Casting the Justice League (Part I)

ComicBook Accuracy: Casting the Justice League (Part I)

Here, I am the Kevin Feige of the DC Movie Universe. Because of all the hoopla with the DCEU, I took it on myself to cast these characters. Welcome to my imagination, and I hope you guys enjoy what I got.

Okay, so I was going to post all of this up in the similar vein most CBM users post up their casts here by putting in their stories, how the characters mold into the story, line-ups, etc. Recently, I've discovered that I'm putting waaay too much time into this, and would like to test the waters first. If people like this, hooray, I will continue these ventures. If people don't then oh well, I'll put this in the back of my mind and keep it in my imagination. It's been quite up there for a while, but I thought I would start this series off with a J.L.A. cast following the 'families' each character has. Mind you, this is my first one. This one will make or break if I make more of these. Feedback would be dope to hear.

Ready or not, here it goes...

Well to start off, the Justice League 'Snyderverse' hasn't been as Comic Book Accurate as we all wanted it to be. The reason why Marvel movies have worked so well is because they are Comic Book Accurate. Not only was accuracy a factor, acting abilities also came in with the prize. And no, I'm not saying the current J.L.A. we got isn't talented, as a matter of fact, I like this lineup, and I have enjoyed the recent DC films (though, not as much as Marvel's). But if people like these movies or not, we can all agree that WB can improve on the ComicBook Accuracy aspect of the current DC Slate, and get actors that are well adapted into fancy, independent things like indie movies and theater. Which is what my slate is headed on forth.

BENJAMIN WALKER AS ......CLARK KENT/SUPERMAN

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2GjkVjLR5Y&list=WL&index=8 /> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nneGVIiKSYs />
Standing at 6'3, Age: 34.....Credits: The Choice, Abraham Lincoln: VK, American Psycho (theater)

If there's one thing I learned in all this, is that Superman is f*kin hard to cast. At first, I was going back and forth to see how my Kal-El would be. Youth was the first thing I wanted since I wanted this Superman to be based around Siegel's and Morrison's Action Comics run with a tad sprinkle of Waid's Birthright right on top of it to make Clark fresh, modern, interesting, and still classic to his roots. He has leading man experience with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunters, but what convinced me the most was his character in The Choice and the Southernisms he has himself. His character in The Choice matches the happiness and adorableness our Clark has, while his character in American Psycho (theater), shows his animosity and seriousness of Kal-El.

ETHAN PECK AS ....... BRUCE WAYNE / THE BATMAN

(29:53 to 32:28 on the First Video)

Standing at 6'1, Age: 30....Credits: The Curse of Sleeping Beauty, Nothing to Fear, Eden

I was going back and forth on Bruce Wayne/Batman since I didn't know which version I wanted him to be. For a while, I was going for the grizzly, veteran know-it-all that has been through some serious things, but I decided that if this were to be CBM Accurate, then Bruce would need to tentatively be the same age Clark would be when he starts out as Supes. I think that Batman in his Prime Years is a much more interesting take on the character since most of his rogues and families pop up during that time. I decided to go with Ethan Peck, because the guy obviously has talent and has the tenacity to play a determined, mysterious Batman, while balancing it out with a much more romantic, upbeat, youngster Bruce. Plus, he is the grandson of the legendary Gregory Peck. Fun Fact: David Mazuchelli (the artist of the classic Batman: Year One) based his drawings of Bruce Wayne off of Gregory Peck; Alex Ross continued this tradition in the powerhouse epic, Kingdom Come.

JESSICA FINDLEY AS .... WONDER WOMAN / DIANA PRINCE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFMmEE-goiI />

Standing at 5'6, Age: 28 ......Credits: Downton Abbey, Winter's Tale, Victor Frankenstein

Looks aside, Jessica Findlay is one talented young lady, and she seems to be (kinda?) on the rise with her credits known in Downton Abbey. She has plenty of indie film experience, and her acting chops exceed beyond expectations. Her acting range is proven in Winter's Tale, plus, her sharp-shooted, keen, smart personality shines bright in Albatross. She also has some decent blockbuster experience starring in the latest Victor Frankenstein film in 2015. She has also won a BAFTA for her performance in Downton Abbey, making her an actress that has a great range to portray our Wonder Woman.

SAM CLAFFLIN AS ....... THE FLASH / BARRY ALLEN

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKugWbL3ic0&index=9&list=WL/> />
Standing at 5'11, Age: 30..... Credits: Me Before You, Love Rosie, The Hunger Games: CF

Clafflin has the perfect balances of what makes Barry such a compelling character. In indie films such as Me Before You, he achieves to perfectly balance out his positive cheesiness along with his funny kindness. Clafflin has the charisma to pul off Barry's character, but most importantly, he can balance out his earnestness along with all those quality features mentioned before. Clafflin has a ton of indie movie experience within Brit film, plus he has dealt with plenty of action blockbusters from Pirates of the Carribean to The Hunger Games

JAMIE DORNAN AS ....... HAL JORDAN / GREEN LANTERN

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWVRgMg1UEY /> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiB8cZX9ejg />
Standing At 6'0, Age: 34......Credits: Anthropoid, The Seige of Jadotville, Once Upon A Time

Add another Brit to the list. I might get some flack choosing Dornan to portray our good ol' Hal Jordan because of Fifty Shades of Grey, but you cannot deny talent as you can see it. He has the ability to play both the charismatic loudmouth that is Hal, while at the same time, maintatining his willfull courage and natural leading skills as a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Some may dub him as too serious for the role, but he can jump in and out from that realm of seriousness to complete jokeyness in an instant (which is exactly what Hal does). His performance in Anthropoid more than demonstrates the acting chops he has, while the Seige of Jadotville exeplifies his commanding prescence as  a leader. The G.L. Corps have always reminded me of a military brigade, and that is how they should be portrayed as with Hal at the helm as the commander.

LUKE BRACEY AS ....... ARTHUR CURRY / AQUAMAN

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UzJxA_NeEA
Standing at 6'0, Age: 27......Credits: Point Break, Hacksaw Ridge, The Best of Me

We finally got an Aussie around in here. Luke Bracey has landed mainly supporting roles, and he hasn't starred in much. He is an up-and-coming actor, and it looks like he is steadily on the rise with Hacksaw Ridge coming out just in time. I haven't seen this guy in much, but seeing from all the clips and interviews, he reminds me sorta of a Chris Hemsworth. And that's perfect for the Aquaman role because I kinda see Thor as Marvel's Aquaman, or Aquaman as Marvel's Thor...if that makes any sense. His young age allows him to play this role longer, plus, he's got the really deep voice, the stunning, sharp look, the acting range, and the looks to portray Arthur Curry up on the big screen.

GIANCARLO ESPOSITO AS...... THE MARTIAN MANHUNTER

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-doKUDCXGTU

Standing at 5'8, Age: 58....... Credits: Breaking Bad, The Jungle Book, Revolution

What else can I say about this man? He is super talented as demonstrated from Breaking Bad. Since I am one of the millions that just adore the show, of course, I show some bias here as to why I think Giancarlo Esposito should be our Martian Manhunter, but his voice, and his acting versitality is perfect for the role given. His character as 'Gus', basically serves as a leader and adviser of sort towards Walter White, which is exactly the role Martian Manhunter is to the J.L.A. He is the heart and soul of the Justice League, and I believe that Giancarlo can capture that pretty well in mo-cap or voiceover, as done in Jungle Book

Well, those are my two cents on a much more CBMAccurate portrayal of the J.L.A. Don;t get me wrong, I still have huge hopes for the current Justice League movie and the DCEU in general. But I just wanted to do this and post this up here, just for the fun of it. If anyone is curious, ideally, I wanted to base these characters off of the New 52 and the Alex Ross art, so yeah. Let me know about any thoughts on this cast. If you like it, dope! I will post up several more as the times go by. If not, please say why, and I'll totally respect that. Thank you for reading all of this.

Mother[frick]er! Just when I'm about to bring out a Flash article with Claflin in the starring role as Barry Allen 😠 So I cannot fault your choice there.

Also highly agree with you about Benjamin Walker as Supes, he's the only guy other than Cavill I can see in the role (as a youthful Superman at least).

Don't know your Batman pick but he certainly looks the part.

Dornan I haven't seen in enough but he certainly has the look downpact.

Bracey I like the idea of as Aquaman.. solely because he's Aussie aha, represent! But I haven't seen him in anything apart from the Point Break remake trailers (which I refuse to watch, because it just looks cringeworthy). However Hacksaw Ridge I'm really looking forward to.

All in all, I don't like you.. solely for the fact that you've stolen my thunder for my Flash piece.

Looking forward to seeing more stuff from you man

Kachow, looks like you weren't fast enough :p

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks that Claflin would make an excelling Barry Allen. His works in 'Me Before You' kinda sold me on him.

Ben just has something about Clark in him that makes it seem natural. But Henry is perfect casting tbh, so it was kinda hard to replace the irreplaceable.

He hasn't starred in much films, but from what I've seen of Ethan Peck, is that he definitely has the acting range, physicality, and the really deep Kevin Conroy voice that not many actors have. He kinda reminds me of a young Michael Keaton of sorts. I would recommend him though, he has tremendous potential star power.

Dornan was kinda questionable, since for a while, I was under the assumption that he couldn't fare well with an American accent. Then I gave in to my stubborn negativeness of Fifty Shades of Grey, saw a few clips, and he wasn't quite as bad as I thought he would be --movie still seems horrible though :/

Not so big on the Point Break show either, but he gives a decent enough performance that solidifies his acting abilities. I'm sure Hacksaw Ridge would definitely display how much of a hard-ass he can be on the big screen. Can't wait to see that one though.

Lol thanks man, I look forward on seeing your Flash article. You got Claflin as your Barry Allen, so I know that it's a good one for sure. Cheers.

A+ for originality and well done for unique choices in each role.
Shame that fancasts don't make it on main as this should do.

Thanks man, I really appreciate the positive feedback. I agree as well, I just hope that there's more of them that come about and make articles about their ideas. It's nice to see fellow CBMers be as passionate about these characters as we are.

It was what first made me come across this site, as I only used to read them. I did 4 of my own but it took a lot of time and effort.
Lets hope there is a bit of a renaissance for them.
