We'll probably never learn what Zack Snyder originally had planned for Justice League but more details continue finding their way online which paint a clearer picture of what the filmmaker might have had in mind for his version of the DC Extended Universe. Now, some concept art has started doing the rounds which seemingly sheds some light on what would have been an origin story for the evil Darkseid.

As you can see below, it seems as if Justice League's flashback sequence was supposed to feature Darkseid's arrival on Earth and fans who have deciphered the hieroglyphs believe that we would have seen a battle between the villain and Ares as well as the moment he gained "The Omega Effect."

The insignia of the Anti-Life equation is pictured at his feet and it seems as if we would have met Darkseid as a normal "man" before he was transformed into the near indestructible force who retreated to Apokolips. Clearly, Snyder was planning a story which would have played out over a number of movies and it's easy to see why this worried Warner Bros. as it could have confused fans.

Regardless, we'll never get to see this story play out and if Darkseid does make his big screen debut, it will more than likely be in The New Gods movie which is currently in the works from Ava DuVernay.

I can see why the DCEU has been mostly failing in building a cinematic universe, they clearly dont understand that building for years and years towards a allmost universe ending threat isnt working. Look at Infinity War. Clearly FAILED!

@MalseMarcel - I get the feeling Snyder and Co were originally taking a more "Lord of the Rings" approach to world building rather than mimicking the MCU, where each film usually followed the last in a direct linear fashion while also expanding the lore.

It could have worked if WB hadn't gotten cold feet. It started when they decided to butcher (an already troubled) Suicide Squad because the trailer made it look like Guardians of the Galaxy, but they could have recovered from that. Justice League could have been the turning point that made it all make sense, but between the real life tragedy causing Snyder to (rightly) take a step back, and WB tampering with it to try and cheaply copy Marvel, it just didn't work.

Plus, my personal point of view is that Snyder is an amazing "big picture" kind of director, but he needs a solid bunch of writers around him to really flesh out his scripts. Terrio is a good start but he could've done with at least one more really strong writer to help out.

Either way, that approach is clearly over and done with, it failed, maybe WB will do better with their new "one film at a time" approach. But as a huge DC fan, as someone who loves Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Wonder Woman... My enthusiasm for DC movies is falling too, and I'm really struggling to get excited about them again.

Plus, Marvel killed it with Infinity War so DC have A LOT of catching up to do.

The Snyder Cut was clearly a better movie but would've positioned the characters in a way that WB weren't happy with.
