It's no secret that Joss Whedon made some huge changes to Justice League with his reshoots (pretty much all of Superman's scenes were changed for starters) but now Kevin Smith has revealed some details about what Zack Snyder's version would have entailed. For starters, we would have got more than just a reference to Darkseid as Superman would have seen him in a vision which would tied into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's "Knightmare" sequence and finally made sense of that.
"Superman joins the fight and teams up with the League to defeat Steppenwolf," the filmmaker reveals. "However, at one point Steppenwolf tries to tempt Superman into joining his army, ready for this? This made me so f****** angry, and we see Darkseid for the first time in Superman's vision and we see flashes of the nightmare footage that Batman had in Batman v Superman, however, Superman snaps back out of it and delivers the final blow to defeat Steppenwolf." Sounds awesome!
That would have tied the two movies together nicely but Warner Bros. was clearly worried that it would either be too complicated and that a Superman who considers breaking bad wouldn't sit well with moviegoers (hence why those scenes featuring him saving civilians were later added by Whedon).
