Justice League Movie Moving Forward?

Justice League Movie Moving Forward?

Described as Warner's new "tentpole" franchise, THR announces the title of the new Justice League film and the writers likely to be penning the script!

In an article primarily about Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes movie, THR reports:

"The studio is poised to bring on Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its Justice League: Mortal tentpole, to pen a draft of the new tale."

And, later in the same article:

"In addition to the ensemble superhero pic Justice League, the Mulroneys, repped by CAA and Management 360, wrote and directed Paper Man, the superhero-tinged dramedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Daniels that opened the Los Angeles Film Festival this year."

The way THR reports this news, you would think that perhaps they have some insider information telling them that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are still considering Justice League a "go."

With a title like "Mortal," somebody in the JL must be dyin'!

it's just the agency trying to promote thier clients (the writers). That's probably the only thing they've written that anyone would be aware of.

The original JL: Mortal had two Flashes Barry Allen and Wally West, so the safe assumption was Barry was toast.

Fingers crossed they get it right! I hope to god they don't use that same cast though. That was one lame ass cast they had going.

you're telling me that WB is hiring writers to pen a horrible live action JL movie, and they wont even start production on the flash?

Im really getting tired of WB's bullsh*t
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 9/21/2009, 8:40 PM
Yeah, they really should make the solo films of JL members and then focus on a JL movie, like what Marvel is doing.

Superman reboot, Flash, and Wonder Woman are top priority before a JL movie.

They already have Green Lantern going forward, so that's one less member to deal with.

Aquaman, I don't know if they should make a movie about him, but I suppose I wouldn't be against it per say.

Martian Manhunter does not need a movie, that I am certain about.

this movie is further along than halo apparently.
i hope they do some serious rewriting, recasting, and please for the love of all that is holy: DO NOT LET GEORGE MILLER DIRECT!!!!!!!!
i liked him for happy feet, but!
food for thought: he approved of not nly the script and title, but the cast!
a while back, i thought that dc would try the marvel approach: origins first, then the team-up.
i hope that they will follow in marvel's footsteps!

it shud be a realistic superhero movie, like nolan's batman. having fictional characters deal with modern day issues...

At this point, the Justice League movie is dead. Hollywood Reporter should have noted the writers' involvement in the past tense. Especially now with the creation of DC Entertainment and the statement from the studio that a new slate of projects will be announced in early 2010. Warners ultimately decided that they needed to launch films focusing on their individual characters rather than introduce them as part of a group.

Ed's right, I think they know that a justice league movie out of the blue is a no go if they don't establish the characters first. we won't be seeing a JL movie for at least another ten years.

I hope it isn't them just trying to sell their clients and this has some legs... They did X-men without Origins ...

I love DC. I love its heroes. But DC/WB combined cannot seem to get their shit together. I don't know why. I wish I knew, bad communication, inability to share ideas effectively, too much studio involvement... I don't know. But somewhere the train has completely come off the tracks and after ten years of CBM madness they have only delivered four movies, two of which featured its title character in name only (Superman Returns & Catwoman)in the past they have optioned films to idiot producers allowing them to run rampant over the mythos, and idiot directors to nipplefy costumes, and create noncannon bastard children. What the hell is going on over there, seriously? Aside from Bats and hopefully Green Lantern they seem to be utterly clueless as to how to even make a CBM. I am getting highly aggravated with the whole damn mess. The more I see of their attempts at bringing their universe to the screen the more I'm begining to think the Nolan bat films were just a wonderful fluke or a happy accident.

What I don't get is why they're trying to put a Justice League movie out there when basically NONE of the DC characters have been introduced through movies. That's like saying there's going to be a Avengers movie without making a Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain American movie.

DC basically has Batman and a future Green Lantern. No they don't have Superman because the old movies are old and Superman Returns does not count. Get at least a Wonder Woman and Flash movie in the works THEN worry about a Justice League movie. They're so stupid.

I agree with Neroday. Half of the Marvel characters have their own movie, regardless if its bad or good they have one. Why is it so hard for DC to do the same? The only creative reason I would find it harder is because DC characters are lighter, Marvel is darker. But that's a tiny problem.

Lets just bring back the Justice League animated series. God I loved that cartoon. DC is making leaps and bounds with its animated movies, why not bring back another animated series of the same caliber?

If Only the Live Action Superman was as good as what I saw in Doomsday...

They should get the Batman TDK director to direct the WHole Justice League Movie.

meh superman doomsday wasn't that great, it made me sad inside. I'd almost say that superman returns was better just because atleast it wasn't butchering a great story, it just had a lame one of its own.

But the X-Men with the exception of Wolvirine don't have their own books. Superman, Batman, et al all carry their own full time books. Those characters deserve their own personal intro and stories.

thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 9/21/2009, 11:13 PM
More than just not having their own own books xmen is about a team of heroes who act as one while justice league is and always has been about a bunch of singular heroes who have banded together to face a foe greater than any one of them. It's a completely different dynamic and cannot be approached in the same way.

I think a Justice League movie will be made, but not before WB sees if an Avengers movie is a massive hit. If it is and they make money even with the huge cost of the cast then it will get made with the big names. If it does decent but not on an epic level, then a JL movie will probably get made but not with the big names
Phinehas
Phinehas - 9/21/2009, 11:22 PM
Cape, they don't have to wait for Avengers. The very subject people are talking about is Xmen. Its a team-up movie. They already have examples to judge by. But the difference that fans want, opposed to a team-up that introduces them, is their favorite hero (Mine is...Hint hint) in the fray with other heroes that you build an ethos for from their individual films. Team up movies work. Fantastic Four was corny, but we know the right script, direction, etc, it would have been great!

JL: mortal has been on imdb for a long time. the synopsis says that batman has been kicked out of the justice league and superman is dead. so its about the rest of the team trying to make due without them. it sounds pretty lame if thats what they are sticking to

comicb00kguy - 9/22/2009, 7:47 AM
Corndog: I have to respectfully disagree. I'd actually rather see a Justice League movie WITHOUT Superman or Batman, or where they were only supporting players if they do. Those two have had plenty of movies and TV shows, not to mention books. Besides, then we get into all kinds of crap about who plays them. A huge can of worms that can easily be avoided!

I don't want this to be like the X-Men movies, which boiled down to Wolverine and some bit players. Let's feature some of the other great DC heroes and give them their chance to shine. Many of the best episodes of JLU did just that. I'm willing to give the writers a chance to see what they have in mind for this story before passing judgment.

Routh for superman. It would be difficult to attract lots of household names to thid film (as the avengers is finding out with Norton), but Routh is still little known enough to get in on it, plus they could get away without doing an individual film for him, as he is already known as superman and everyone knows superman's backstory by now. Green Lantern would be in with his film coming up, and wonder woman should be there too, provided she gets a film, as well as the flash. Martian Manhunter, Aquaman or Green Arrow could be put in without backstory movies, maybe with cameos in other films ala iron man in the hulk, if that isn't too copycat-ish. Warner Brothers only needs to look at the hype already surrounding the avengers (a movie not even set to come out for another three years!) and its character movies to see that making the back story films first is the way to go :)

Warner definitely should go for the individual stories first. Its the best way to give each individual league member their deserved screen time 'cos by the time we get an epic JLA movie, each character would have to share screen time with the others. And who knows who the film makers are going to decide to give the most screen time to. It would be a shame if Superman and Batman dominated much of the screen time and others like Martian Manhunter or Green Arrow get less screen time.

A Martian Manhunter movie just has to be done.
