Around the time of the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2021, the director revealed that he was originally planning to include a subplot involving Lois Lane (Amy Adams) embarking on a romantic relationship with Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck).
Not too surprisingly, there was some resistance to the idea, and the Lois/Batman romance was dropped long before cameras started rolling.
Snyder was a guest on the latest episode of the Russo brothers' Pizza Film School video podcast, and the Avengers: Endgame directors quizzed the filmmaker on what would no doubt have been a controversial story decision.
"I think in the original script, Lois and Batman got together briefly," Snyder confirmed. "There was this whole other thing, and everyone was like, 'Oh, my God, you can't do that.' Because Superman was dead and Lois is a pretty amazing person. Her part in Justice League is really -- especially since I had Amy [Adams], and Amy's like, a genius, I really felt like we should lean on Amy because she's just a great actress, a force of nature"
"And then I loved the idea of setting up this concept, like in the movie where the husband goes off to war and he's dead and the wife moves on and then the husband appears, like, 'I'm not dead, I'm fine,' how do you deal with that? I was super into that concept, that, 'Oh, no, Superman can be brought back to life.'"
Though the notion of Bruce and Lois getting together may seem outrageous to some, there is actually a precedent for it in the comics - although it did happen during the New 52 era, which a lot of DC fans would rather forget about!
Still, love or hate Snyder's work, there's no denying that he was unafraid to take some big risks with these characters!
