Should Darkseid be the Justice League Villain?

Darkseid is perhaps the most infamous Justice League villain, but should he be the first?

The Justice league has faced many enemies over there many incarnations but none as persistent as Darkseid. Darkseid is one of the most powerful New Gods and the ruler of the planet Apokolips. His entire life has been spent gathering power and subjugating various life. All of this to find the Anti-Life equation, an equation that upon being heard by anyone would make them lose their free will and serve Darkseid.

Darkseid has recently been the object of a lot of speculation as to whether he will be in the first Justice League movie, or in later films. Below are some Pros and cons, yes I realise there are contradictions in my list.

Pro's of using Justice League

-Most Darkseid stories involve Darkseid trying to take over the earth, it would be a simple reason for the Justice League to form and would not require a lot of background info when you already have to introduce the Justice League members themselves

-Probably the most popular of the Justice League bad guys, could drum up some major hype.

-Parademons would make excellent canon fodder for the Justice League members to display their individual powers on.

-Opens up the DC New Gods mythology, could lead into characters like Orion/Big Barda/Mr. Miracle

-Darkseid is a villain who could come back in later times like he usually does in comics, if he does appear in Justice League, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends with Darkseid retreat back to Apokolips.

-If he was a good villain people will want to see him again

-Yes we saw Thanos on screen first, but we could see Darkseid raising hell on Earth before Thanos does in Avengers 3 if that 2017 date is real. If DC and Marvel's biggest villains are both alien warlords intent on controlling the universe why not get yours out first.

Cons of using Darkseid in Justice League

-Darkseid could be used as the endgame villain for a Justice League 3/4 much like Thanos.
-He's to hard to explain for the for the first Justice League movie

-Plot of Avengers 1, Avengers 2, and Justice League 1 would be a maniacal bad guy with an endless army of expendable soldiers.

-Unlike the MCU the DCCU has a goldmine of unused characters at the moment, they could use just about anyone as there first.

-Darkseid should be the final villain, like Thanos he should be teased throughout many movies.
-Darkseid's place is in a Superman movie

Anyways in my opinion, with the DCCU being set up the way it is there first villain shouldn't matter too much. It's introducing the team and team dynamic that matters the most. I'd be fine with if they made Darkseid the big bad for the first Justice League as long as his origin doesn't take too much away from the heroes.

But then again if I had my way Darkseid wouldn't be the final endgame villain for the Justice League, thats reserved for this guy.

Why does everyone think the 3rd film should be the endgame? Can we go past a trilogy please?

JL's origin I believe could easily feature Apokolips and its villains except no Darkseid present (though their master is referenced).

@Reddest

Yep. I agree.

Brainiac for JL 1, Tower of Babel JL2, Darseid JL3( only to retreat back into apokalips) David graves JL4 and then finally Darseid final fight JL5.

Darseid should return on the Supes movies after the beats Doomsday which then leads into JL5

*gasp* We must prohibit the full story and character potential of our series or otherwise we won't abide by the 11th Commandment of always making trilogy!!!

Is that the Anti-Monitor? My DC knowledge is not very extensive.

Personally, with some foreshadowing and set up I think Brainiac, Apokolips (and all its goodies without Darkseid though) something like Doomsday or whatever can be apart of an origin. Tower of Babel would be good if it feeds into a bigger story.

Er, it's a bit complicated.

If they use Darkseid, I'd love to see him used in a way similar to AlphaDog's idea.

@Nukem

I suppose so. All depends on the execution and how it ties into the bigger picture.

Darkseid should not be the first villain. Aside from someone like the Anti-Monitor, all the other villains would seem kind of lame after him.

The first one should be something like OMAC. Or maybe Despero. Legion of Doom. Something like that.

Darkseid should be saved for a bit.

DC has the best villains in comics. They could keep Darkseid for the twelfth movie and use anyone they want. Hell, Sinestro and his corps could serve as great villains. Professor Zoom has been the main antagonist for the jl. White Martians, ras al ghul, ares, black Adam. All able to be used. Dc has this advantage over the mcu, who's biggest villain isn't even the best in marvel. Galactus and d Dr Don are who they need to get inn order to match up, and even then it won't even be close

Or they could even do JL vs Suicide Squad. Like Assault on Arkham with higher stakes

The White Martians could be good if they wanted to use Martian Manhunter, Brainiac is tied to Krypton so that's a possibility, and OMAC is interesting.

I personally wouldn't want him as the last villain in JL3 or JL4. I think seeing him in the second JL movie is the best way to go. I would make the first movie about the White Martian invasion. I also think Trigon would be excellent. Most people think of him as a villain of the TT. But he could be a great villain for the JL too. Brainiac is another villain that can work. Zod hacked into man kinds infrastructure now imagine how much more Brainiac could do. I could see him taking control of missile launchers to cars. Anything he can get his hands on become a weapon.

I also can see Imperiex being a great first JL baddie. Despero might work also. I think having the Appellaxians and Starro's working together would be cool. I can even see Ultra-Humanite being a pain for the JL. Even Maxwell Lord being a villain could be interesting. So really think it's best to save Darkseid for the sequel. Then he can come back for the third or fourth movie.

Why am I seeing people wanting Imperiex? I just can't understand or wrap my brain around it. Also... Trigon? He IS a Teen Titans villain - he's Raven's father. It'd be like having Spider-man fight Magneto.

What I think should happened in regards to story is indeed bringing in Darkseid in the first movie. but not directly.

What I believe the story should be based on is Darkseid's high rank henchmen (must be a known villain) come to earth in search of clues of the anti-life equation, but end up being VERY conspicuous and somewhat demanding.

This prompts a panic from the heroes fearing another Zod situation could happen.
Story continues, fighting ensues, parademon squad comes in to aid assist (not the entire army, atleast not in the 1st movie)

Heroes defeat Darkseid's henchmen and parademons.
Then suddenly a boom tube portal opens up, and Darkseid comes in, flying vertically like he does.

A league member ask's "who's this?"
Batman: "Must be their boss" or *Insert logical assumption here based on detective work*

Darkseid Shoots a couple of Omega beams (perhaps a scene of Batman dodging one?)
Superman goes to fight him and Darkseid punches him in the face (bloodied face or no?) and his body flies off a couple city's over.
This small fight sequence (if you can call it that) shouldn't last more than 30 seconds.

Whatever is left of the henchmen and parademons, they walk through the portal.
As Darkseid is the only one left still standing by the open portal.

A brief staring contest ensues between Darkseid and Batman, Then Darkseid turns around and walks through the portal.

With Batman's intelligence, he deducts that this is not the end because Darkseid did not find what he was looking for.
and points out to the other members, that now more than ever, a League of heroes should be formed to protect the earth. They form the Justice League, and superman makes it public. (Maybe add a small tease to the Legion of Doom with Vandal Savage looking at Superman's public announcement regarding the Justice League being formed to protect Earth)

While Darkseid is in the movie, and he kicks ass, he shouldn't have more than a minute of screen time.

JL2 Should be Brainiac with Doomsday as puppet / big canon fodder

JL3: Tower of Babel/ Legion of Doom type story With Vandal Savage and maybe Ra's Al Gul.

JL4: Darkseid full scale invasion of earth. (2 part movie? maybe if they mix in elements of Apokolips, New Genesis and the new gods)
GoldSlayer1
GoldSlayer1 - 8/5/2014, 4:04 PM
JL5 (or 6 if Darkseid's arc is 2 movies) should be based on the Crime Syndicate.
But maybe with a twist, with the Crime Syndicate having a younger Batman. (atleast Younger than affleck's batman)

Batfleck at the end going
"There is a difference between you and me...
We both looked into the abyss, But when it looked back at us, You blinked!"

I think Darkseid should be used as the second JL villain but do feel that without proper introduction he could be wasted I just don't want to see something similar to how marvel is handling thanos with him being built up and used in the third JL movie, because I would of loved to see the JL come together to fight the sinestro corp but without a proper GL movie before hand that is out of the question.
