UPDATED: Justice League Loses Director NOT

George Miller's publicist is denying earlier reports that he is OFF the Justice League project. Is that such a good thing?

UPDATE: As of 12/3/2008, the below news is being refuted. The publicist claims that the radio show never took place, and that George didn't say any such things.

This was the news yesterday (12/2/2008)...
An aussie scooper reports that George Miller, who was slated to direct the Justice League movie, is officially off that project and is, "not involved with that film in any capacity."

This was said during an interview with an Australian radio talk-show. The news hit first at Dark Horizons where the ex-director also gave his views as to Warner Bros change of direction.

"I suspect that the script and casting are out the window as well." Miller also suggested that Warner Brothers wants bigger stars for their comic book movies.

Miller's casting pics were much maligned by the fans, but there is also plenty of debate online whether big name stars are a good idea or not. Sometimes TOO big of stars mean that the superhero character itself is overshadowed.

Let's just hope that the new direction will be better than the old. One thing that will be missed? Seeing Megan Gale in that Wonder Woman costume.

That's a shame, I mean, not the movie... WB/DC isn't ready to unleash a JLA film yet, they can barely get Superman right, let alone a team flick but dropping the previously cast actors? More to the point, dropping Megan Gale? That was a great casting choice for Wonder Woman. There are not many hot 5'11" actresses out there on the "A-list".

Shaman - 12/2/2008, 11:03 AM
Oh i'm guessing that the upcoming Wonder Woman movie will still star her. And who knows, it would be cool to have the real actors play they're roles in JLA. All they need to do right now is figure out cool tie-ins with each of the characters. If Marvel can do it, so can DC/WB.

-Green Lantern movie... check!
-Wonder Woman movie... check!
-Batman... Nolan and Goyer, look at the big picture here!
-Superman... Singer or Millar, get off your asses!!!
-Flash... HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...ANYBODY?!?!?!?!?!

Vex - 12/2/2008, 11:44 AM
I hope so, Megan Gale was a good choice.

I would raise money by punching babies to get The Flash on the big screen.

No no, enough with the wait! The time is now! The only way to bring those two together QUICK is to have the next movie be Batman Versus Superman! They go at it at first, then they realise they're on the same side and then they become the world's finest! Have a tie-in with the Wonder Woman movie and Green Lantern movie and we're a GO for JLA!!! Just bring in Flash as the brat in the JLA movie discovering his powers... i dunno. Work with me here, work with me! How can there be no Flash project on the table here!!! They're getting manhandled by Marvel!

Actually, that wasn't the series, it was the actual "superman/batman" animated movie. The part your refereing to was "the best" part of the movie i gotta admit! I really enjoyed the fight sceen in the "batman versus superman" movie script i read on the web the other day. The continuity can't be used in any way but the fight was actually breath taking! Here's the script:

And you can say that again, hot coals and broken glass LOL :P

I don't care if they do it this way or another, but Superman and Batman need to be together somehow. I never liked Superman because he ws to nice and perfect. But when they add a hero who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty, it is could to see the conflicting personalities. Like in Kingdom Come and The Dark Knight Returns. You see the two at eachother's throat because of their differences in how they serve their own brands of justice, but they usually come together because of their common ground in not wanting to take human life. Although I do not like Superman, the two really even eachother out and it would be cool to see the two of them together on film. Nolan directing would be awesome, but that's a long shot.

I never read World sFinest or saw a fight bewteen Batman and Superman, but "realistically" how in the HELL does Batman win that fight? He get ahold of some Kryptonite, because that's the only plausible way for that outcome to happen. No gadget in Bat's utility belt is going to help him against SUPERMAN.

They have to get a Superman movie RIGHT first.
Do a Flash movie already jeez.
Green Lantern with HAL JORDAN and SINESTRO.
Megan Gale as Wonder Woman.
and of course, The Batman is solid.

This movie should have no future. I wouldn't see it if they paid me to. Justice League is far to stupid of a concept. The universes of these characters don't seem to mend as well as those in the marvel universe. I hate the idea of this movie.
IonParallax
IonParallax - 12/3/2008, 7:14 PM
Ummmm ok. Justice League would be an AWESOME BADASS MOVIE, if done properly, for about 1 billion dollars. There's absolutely NO WAY you can do Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman and the COUNTLESS other characters in a justice league movie for anything less than 1 billion dollars. Superman Returns blew threw what? 250 million and it was TOTAL SHYTE!!! That's just for 1 superhero. Now add 6 or 7 more superheros and WOW, you've already got over 1 billion in production costs. Not to mention the villain(s) plus the sets, the CGI, the countless gadgets, extras, stunts etc etc. It is just not even remotely feasible to do a live action JL movie ANYTIME soon, ESPECIALLY, without doing a single good Superman movie, a Flash movie, GL movie, etc etc etc. The logistics are just not there. If they attempt this now, it doesn't matter WHAT they put into it, it is going to die, a horrible, painful, utterly pathetic death, that something of such magnitude should NEVER have to suffer.

Now, after my emotionally charged rant I have to reply to Shaman and saaaaay...

If that were made into a movie and done right now, I would see it at LEAST 3 times in a row. At least. No jokes, all bullshyte aside. It is one of the BEST things I have read in a LONG time concerning Superman and Batman together. Even in script form it's an excellent read. Even with all the malformations of the pages and some text missing for whatever reason, it still blows most scripts or script attemps out of the water. Thank you for that link, I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 4.5 hours (while working) reading this thing. It was awesome.
Shaman
Shaman - 12/4/2008, 8:02 AM
Superman Returns's script sucked but it was a 250 million thrill ride that i still enjoyed. Putting that aside, a reboot is manditory.

And ION your very welcome my friend! It's soooo funny cause i also read it at work without so much as taking a pee break LMAO!!! The script is probably the best movie script i've ever "heard" of and it is the best i've ever read! But like i said, the continuity could never be used but most of the script could be retouched to fit it in actuall time-continuity with the already existing movies. A "dash" of the opening from the animated Superman/Batman movie and a "sprinkle" of this one ending with this perfect awe-inspiring battle between the two and bingo "WORLD"S FINEST" on IMAX!!!

As for the previous JLA movie being filmed, it had Spider-man 3/Superman Returns catastrophy writen all over it! Starting from lack of continuity to an idiotic cast, it was made to fail in an UWE BOLL fashion!!!

Money isn't always the issue, granted the more the better. But a reasonable cast and premise with decent special effects preceeded by every team member's own movie at the box office(with no easter eggs but actuall tie-ins) and it could be better than Avengers. They just need to get started on this or they'll miss the money boat! Let's not pull another Superman/Doomsday here, this movie is worth being done right and making the necessary monetary sacrifices to pull it off!
Shaman
Shaman - 12/4/2008, 8:06 AM
But for the reccord, i still feel that the magic team number is 5 and at least for the first JLA movie the team should be:

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern (John Stuart)
Flash

IMHO :)
Crusader
Crusader - 12/4/2008, 8:30 AM
I really don't think that JLA is a good idea. Too many superheros means alot more special affects which means alot more money. If the script is not a success, this will be like superman returns all over, a big flop.
IonParallax
IonParallax - 12/4/2008, 12:04 PM
OK, if JLA isn't a good idea (which truly, it is), how do you feel about Avengers? What about the X-Men? Justice League has the BEST cast of characters in DC and somehow, that isn't a good idea? The cavalcade of characters is revolving and endless, wow, just like the Avengers...
Shaman
Shaman - 12/4/2008, 12:28 PM
It's funny cause it's true ION LMAO!!!

But i really do get the "drift" of everyone who thinks that JLA is to big to fit in the biggest of screens. All of Marvels' superheroes are much more limited in abilities than DC's and seem to fit in nicely with our reality so we get to connect with them on a deeper level. That's why X-men, Fantastic Flop and Avengers seems to be a less monumental feat. Bringing in the JLA is monetarily monumental in special effects as well as in casting wise because of the success of Batman Begins and TDK. But it can still be done with the same buget as Spider-man 3. Now with a decent script "this time" it would succeed in being a block buster! Right now, the build up is what DC/WB needs to concentrate on.
ElBeaster
ElBeaster - 12/4/2008, 2:49 PM
I think that a lot of comic book characters have absolutely unbelievable back stories that only work by themselves. In Kingdom Come and Marvel Civil War, it gets a little rediculous with the surplus of super humans. I think Marvel has the better idea by making movies of all the characters beforehand. That way the audience already knows the origins of all the characters. If JLA just throws all of the origins out there in one movie, it can become a little overwhelming.
Crusader
Crusader - 12/4/2008, 3:23 PM
Marvel set out a plan for the avengers. Each superhero has or will have there own movie, and then some of the movies are connected so you will have to look at all the movies to see the avengers. DC is coming up with an trilogy for superman and batman, and movies for wonder women (maybe) flash(big maybe) and greenlatern (bigger maybe. If JLA comes out it will have to be in the next 7 to 10 years unless they rush, which isnt a good idea. Also they will have to connect it with real life like they did dark knight beacuse in that movie there where no such thing as superpowers. DC has alot of work to do, and they need a brave director.
IonParallax
IonParallax - 12/4/2008, 4:17 PM
Good point Darrell, I think rushing ANY project (especially on the magnitude of JLA) would make for a slew of just badly handled, misappropriated films that aren't going to do ANY justice to the characters involved. I actually find DC's heros to be more along the lines of reality than Marvel. OK, there's aliens and what not, but there ARE real aliens out there ( I dare you to prove me wrong), both have their fancifulness to them, but I think Marvel takes it much farther than DC. Although I prefer Marvel outright OVER DC, and maybe it is because their more fantasitc (IMO)

The thing about The Batman movies, is it's moving more towards super powers and EXTREME improbability with the advent of Two-Face and the psychotic Joker. Neither of them ARE super powered in anyway shape or form, but to be burnt up and horribly scarred, only to establish a dulaity that is OBVIOUS while meandering around in 2 seperate outfits as one, is opening the door for more fantastic characters.
Shaman
Shaman - 12/5/2008, 7:21 AM
But why people think of DC as a bigger project is because they're character's have a "demi-god" stature while Marvel's characters are more down to earth and have "earthly" chalenges (THOR being the exception also the reason why a movie about him is very touchy). I'm not saying DC doesn't but a lot less. The only "outa-this-world" challenges i can recall from marvel were the secret wars and the Shi-Ar in X-men with the pheonix saga. I know i'm probably forgetting about a few but every time i seem to pick up a DC comics (except for Batman & friends), it seems to be "universal" and "outworldish". Don't get me wrong, i luuuuuv those story lines but it is "bigger" in perspective meaning "harder" to put on the big screen and it probably explains why we've always had shitty Superman movies but great Batman movies(excluding schumaker's). And i do get your point ION about Joker and TwoFace but measured up next to Superman and GreenLantern, they're like insects.
Shaman
Shaman - 12/5/2008, 7:29 AM
As for rushing things, it could be done right if they pulled everybody together in a huge "seminar-type" meating with scripters producers and directors. They could make the Wonder Woman, GL, Flash and World's Finest movies to remotely come out in the same year which could be 2010 with the JLA movie schedualled for late 2011 early 2012. It can be done well if they all have each their own production team and work toghether at the same time on this.

I think a justice league movie could be good and I believe it's a good idea as long as the major characters are cemented first in indiviudual movies. But I'll tell you right now why it won't happen. The 'SUITS'.. The suits have a machiavellian type ability to take a good idea and take a huge crap on it and try to pawn it off as the original concept. TDK works because it's based in reality there wasn't much that happend that couldn't happen in real life. The other characters are much more tricky because now we are talking super science, magic or aliens. How do you bridge the gap? Marvel's world works as Shaman says because the character's abilites and fanfare is so varied.. thus no one is propelled to the center of there world in the comics. They need each other.. Nolan has achieved an unprecedented success with TDK and creating a world where Batman can exist in solitude completely self contained and it works.. He's a billionaire but you didn't see him catching the bat jumbo jet to Japan he had to call in a favor. There for not devolving into the 60's batman where every contraption had a freakin batman symbol on it. Where did he keep all that crap anyway??

When you start talking true fantasy charcters like Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Latern it's a bit more difficult to make it work because the challenges have to be other worldly or else they don't make sense. Hence why Kryptonite keeps rearing it's ugly head.. I don't think it's impossible but the challenges have to be large and yet believeable for the character given there particular powers and limitations. How do they all fit together is more the question.. Does Wonder Woman live in Themyscara or does she have an apartment in SOHO two floors down from Superman? Do they all live on a space station and if so who keeps there secret identities and who doesn't? What I'm driving at here is the movie still has to have an underlying theme which usually means the story moves from one persons perspective. I think The New Frontier was o.k. but it was told from Green lantern's viewpoit it was his story and Superman getting knocked out and getting saved by Aquaman was lame.. why not have a guy like Nemisis Enforcer just be almost a match for him.. thus keeping him out of the fray.. just and idea I know he's a Marvel guy but you know where I'm going..

I think a good idea for the movie would be two of them are already working together filling in where the other falls short and a challenge arises they can't handle so they seek out assistance and they have to convice the others to join up. Kind of a reclutant pact to save the earth or whatever.. It has to be something huge to necessitate all of them working together or else Supeman can handle it. He can move near the speed of light.. I say alien envasion.. Darkseide or something like that.. like in Justice League Unlimited.. when the Thanagarian's arrive..

I agree totally, same issue with THOR which is the only DC/ish character that Marvel has as a main superhero.

Your good ION, i give you that but most of what you said is Shi'ar and i notice a lot of it is Fantastic Flop which obviously didn't work out on the big screen. Us fans kinda liked them just like we did "kinda like" Superman Returns and X3. Were they badly made? I dunno, the movies SEEMED to be accurate with the characters stories, special effects were amazing, acting wasn't bad so where did they go wrong? The script has to be the issue which means that if they DO a JLA movie, the script better be damn good for the audience to relate and wanna pay to watch it more than once. I guess it's the main reason why more realistic characters sell.

Hell, i'm hopin' for a LOBO movie but it would have the same success as a "punisher in space" movie... ain't gonna happen. :(

the thing is, nolan has already said he will NEVER be involved, nor will HIS batman..with a crossover movie. as talented as he is hes also an arrogant bastard! basically he believes his batman exists in a brand new universe, outside the current dc universe..well im sorry christopher, weather u like it or not batman is part of the dc universe. i appreciate what he did with the franchise and i loved his movies but there you have it. if we ever see a justice league movie its going to be with either a new actor..or without batman altogether.
shaman i agree with your choices for the characters. best to keep it simple starting off..i reckon it should be just like the original jl cartoon..maybe without hawkgirl!

Shaman - 12/6/2008, 3:52 PM
Nolan can go to hell, yes he did a good job but he's no GOD. Give Goyer's script to Stephen Norrington or Frank Miller and it will look just as cool if not cooler so he can come down his pedistal now thank you. As if HE's calling the shots now, he's so replaceable.

And yes Roar, for the first JLA movie, i think they should stick with the Fab-Five and go wild with a JLU sequel. And of all the characters the JLU have, i think they can come up with more important heroes than Hawkgirl. She's only there to balance the visible minority anyway. "Fire" would be a better addition.
