Warner Bros. Ups Ben Affleck To JUSTICE LEAGUE Executive Producer To "Support" Zack Snyder

There's been a shake up behind the scenes of Justice League as Ben Affleck has been upped to executive producer on the movie in order to seemingly help steer the movie in the right direction...

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has made a change to what they describe as the "Justice League braintrust" by giving Ben Affleck an executive producer credit. According to the trade, he will "work with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes to make the film the best it can be." Does this show a lack of confidence in the Batman v Superman helmer's abilities?

That would be jumping to conclusions, but it's clear that Warner Bros. want Affleck to bring to the table the same kind of expert storytelling abilities as he did with the likes of Argo and The Town. However, before you start imagine the actor/director shoving Snyder out of his director's chair, the trade is quick to point out that, "Affleck is doing this to be supportive of Snyder, with whom he worked well on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." It seems like they simply want his assistance in figuring out the best approach to getting this world right, something which makes sense considering the fact that he's working with Geoff Johns on a solo Batman movie. @Kr08 - I still want Snyder on as director. I like the dude and what he's doing but he does need help on the story side. Him and Ben seem to like each other and work well together. If Ben can guide him on that, then we're in for a treat. :) It's a very mutually beneficial relationship as they will both learn from one another.

@Supafairy - Exactly. Ben has said it himself that the way Zack Snyder films scenes are so unique and well done that he never would've thought of doing anything like it as a director. Ben will learn how to add more visual flair and how to handle big action sequences, while Snyder will learn how to edit a better narrative.

@Kr08 - Again, Executive producers have very little input from a creative and technical standpoint.

They serve primarily as a means of providing funding, moving funding, and money management.

The Producer role is the one with creative influence.

@MrDandy - I know what an EP does. But it's clear that they've already allocated the budget and have compiled the schedule for Justice League a long time ago. This "Executive Producer" credit is simple and small subterfuge to give Affleck more say in the film.

@Kr08 - It could also mean he either put in a lot of his own money or secured money from other sources, or half a dozen other things.

I'm just saying, don't jump to conclusions because almost always the Executive Producer is not there for creative input.

He and Snyder became friends during Batman v Superman, if anything, he's doing this to help his friend and Warner Bros. is more than happy to let him.

@Kr08 - Sorry but I read it differently. Batman will be directing Batman very soon but have experiences including successes in indy or low budget films. This will help Affleck to understanding what it is to manage and guide big blockbuster movies. You do not expect WB to give $250million to Affleck since he has never made such a budget before in any of his movies.

@justinroughneck - Nah, they give big budgeted franchise films to indie directors all the time. Like Nolan had nothing but Memento and Insomnia under his belt when they gave him Batman. Colin Trevorrow made a leap from a 750,000 dollar movie to the 150 million Jurassic World.

@justinroughneck - " This will help Affleck to understanding what it is to manage and guide big blockbuster movies."

Actually its likely the other way round, Affleck will be keeping Snyder in check with how much he spends.
