Weta to Outfit the Justice League

The men and women who brought you the costumes, weapons, makeup, models, prosthetics, dinner sets, wedding stationary and other miscellaneous items for the blockbuster Lord of the Rings trilogy has triumphed once again, nailing the contract to fit out Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the Justice League.

The theoretical ‘blockbuster’ that could have been Justice League, which is now wallowing in a rumored cast fit for a remake of 90210, has now got at least one big gun on their side; Weta.

They did practically everything but sign Viggo Mortenson to the movie for Lord of the Rings, and they did it extraordinarily well. They were known in the wilderness that is Hollywood filmmaking, but only after the epic trilogy hit the big screens did they become a high priced commodity.

Now, in what could also lead to some high profile effects work for the film, Weta has been signed on to create the costumes for Justice League.

"They are doing all the costumes and they're doing a brilliant job," said film's Wellington-based American producer, Barrie Osborne, who produced Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings. "A lot of people thought it would be too hard, that you can only make those things in Hollywood."

So whether you’re like me and looking forward to the direct-to-DVD release of Justice League: The New Frontier more than you are the JL big screen movie, or if you’re not, this is something to make you smile.
