Zack Snyder has taken to Vero to share his response to Army of the Dead and his director's cut of Justice League picking up wins in both fan-voted categories during last night's Academy Awards ceremony.
Though the "Snyder Cut" wasn't eligible for the Oscar Fan Favorite movie of the year, it did end up winning the award for Oscar Cheer Moment. The climactic "Flash Enters the Speed Force" scene claimed the #1 spot ahead of the three Spideys swinging into action together in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the "Avengers, Assemble" scene from Avengers: Endgame, the “and I am telling you, I’m not going” scene from Dreamgirls, and Neo dodging bullets in The Matrix.
The filmmaker's legions of fans couldn't vote for ZSJL, so they shifted their focus to Netflix zombie heist flick Army of The Dead, which was awarded Oscar Fan Favorite over Spider-Man: No Way Home, Cinderella, Minamata, and tick, tick... BOOM!
Snyder posted the following messages (via Screen Rant), thanking his "literally best fans ever" for their support.
Whether you happen to feel either or both of these movies deserved wins in their respective categories, the general consensus is that these polls were "gamed" to at least some degree. Even if that's true, this is the risk you take by opening up these kind of votes to the public!
It will be interesting to see if the Academy sticks with these fan-voted categories moving forward, however.
