Joss Whedon's JUSTICE LEAGUE Reshoots Are Far More Significant Than Initially Reported

The bad news keeps coming, though you might consider this a positive update depending on how you felt about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! Joss Whedon's Justice League reshoots? They're "extensive."

When we first learned that director Zack Snyder had decided to step down from Justice League due to a family tragedy, it was said that The Avengers helmer Joss Whedon had been brought on board, "to shepherd the movie through post and the shooting of some additional scenes." Between that report and comments from studio execs at Warner Bros., it sounded like it was always part of the plan to have Whedon pen some additional scenes and that they would only be minor and in Snyder's style.

Well, a new story from the same source - The Hollywood Reporter - offers a different take on things.

Apparently, Whedon is actually doing what they describe as "extensive reshoots." That means he's changing Justice League as significantly as the likes of Fantastic Four and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It could be that's a good thing and that it will help the movie; after all, The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron were embraced by critics whereas Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice split opinions.

With Snyder leaving the film before finishing post-production, and Whedon handling the rumored "extensive" reshoots, it's now clear that the Justice League we get in November is probably going to be vastly different than how it was first imagined.

Then why haven't we seen a pushed back release date?

@billnye69 - marketing for a movie this big typically costs almost as much as it does to make it. The negative repercussions of pushing back the date probably outweighs the positives to WB's eyes. Just because they'd get a more cohesive and better film by pushing back the date doesn't mean they'd make back all the wasted marketing costs.
