JUSTICE LEAGUE Storyboard Artist Sheds Some Light On Zack Snyder's Original Plans For Superman

Pretty much all of Henry Cavill's Superman scenes in Justice League were reshot by Joss Whedon but the movie's storyboard artist has now shed some light on what Zack Snyder had planned for the hero...

While Warner Bros. wanted to launch a Cinematic Universe of its own, Zack Snyder clear had his own ideas for a self-contained story beginning with Man of Steel that would have seemingly ended with the team battling Darkseid in a post-apocalyptic setting. Little is known about how Justice League was set to play out before Joss Whedon came on board but we've heard that Superman was supposed to remain "evil" for most of the movie, with it later revealed that Darkseid was controlling the hero.

Now, that's seemingly been confirmed by storyboard artist Jay Oliva as he's revealed that we would have seen "Superman unhinged" in the final act rather than his return to take down Steppenwolf.

"I did from the time they arrived to the nuclear reactor all the way to the end of the fight. There’s a couple stuff that when I watched the film I was like, ‘What happened to that?’ I was really looking forward to seeing it because I’ve done some crazy stuff. I tried to top what I’ve done with Superman. When Superman comes back, I had done some really crazy stuff like Superman unhinged."

Unless Snyder one day decides to sit down and do a tell-all interview about his original plans for the DCEU (which seems highly unlikely), we'll probably never know what he had planned for Justice League and beyond. Do you wish his vision had become a reality? Share your thoughts in the usual place.

You know... the appeal of Jodorowsky's Dune is that he never actually got to make the movie. It's an interesting what-if scenario.

Please, nobody make a Snyder's Justice League documentary... please...

Superman unhinged? At the end of Justice League? So his plan was to make a Superman trilogy where we never actually get to see the Superman we all know and love?

@TheUnworthyThor - Kind of hard to do a Darkseid story if nobody gets turned to the dark seid. It could have been handled two ways. He could have fought to break free of Darkseid's influence like he did in Smallville and in Byrne's Superman, or he could have been replaced by Val Zod like in Earth 2.

Seemed clear to me that he wanted to do a mixture of Brutaal Superman and Injustice Superman to lead into the sequel. It's a shame Whedon returned him to the cheesy status quo in the end. It killed any chance of doing a decent Darkseid approaching story. He should have killed Steppenwolf and then took over the planet in his stead, paving the way for Apokolips and making Batman's vision come true.

@rabid - The darkseid storyline is too early anyway.
