Mark Millar Says STARLIGHT & CHRONONAUTS Will Be His Next Titles To Hit The Big Screen

It's hard to keep track of all of the 'Millarworld' properties in Hollywood these days - there are so many! On the back of his success with Kingsman: The Secret Service this year, Scottish scribe Mark Millar has revealed the names of his next two movie projects. Check them out here!

Having already seen several of his original comics brought to life on the big screen, prolific writer Mark Millar recently revealed that Starlight and Chrononauts will probably be the next two 'Millarworld' properties to get the green light. The Scottish scribe is famously associated with a number of recent R-rated comic book movie hits, including the Kick-Ass films and this year's incredibly popular Kingsman: The Secret Service. Millar recently sat down with JoBlo to update them about some of his other comic-to-film projects:

"The next two that I think will be moving forward pretty quickly are Starlight and Chrononauts, I think they'll probably be made at the same time as Kingsman 2, if not even before. I think Starlight's screenplay is finished now, it was written by Gary Whitta, he finished the screenplay a couple of weeks back and we're just moving forward now looking for a director."

"Chrononauts, there's one of the actors already and we're just looking for the second guy. Those two I think are the most likely to be the next two out, and then we should have another three ready to roll next year as well."

The 20th Century Fox produced Starlight focuses on 'Duke McQueen' - a former space-hero who returned home, settled down, got married and had kids. Ageing and alone after the passing of his wife, he is called back into space for one final adventure. Meanwhile, Universal recently picked up the rights for Chrononauts, which follows two scientific geniuses as they discover time-travel and wrestle with the choice to use it for personal gain or the benefit of all mankind.

Millar also touched upon the status of Kingsman 2, following the first film's strong performance at the box office this February. The writer revealed that while his frequent collaborator Matthew Vaughn has been "putting some ideas together",
the story "isn't really a finished thing yet."

Which 'Millarworld' property would you like to see hit the big screen next? Leave your thoughts in the usual place below!

Props go to Miller for majority of the quality he's put out, but with the level of involvement he has in filmmaking and the delays he often has when it comes to releasing his work, he might as well as become a full on screenwriter.

Starlight is great and Chrononauts is one of my favorite series going on right now, the guys knows how to write some very good shit that should be adapted to film.

I loved Chrononauts, great little series. I honestly think Millar writes these stories for the screen. His scripts have a very film-like quality to them. There's a casual nuance to his scene descriptions that I've only ever seen in film scripts. Compared to other writers, like Brian Michael Bendis, Millar writes incredibly casually as if he's just talking to someone.

Just saw this, figured it's mildly relevant given Millar's involvement with Fox.

I know I've said it before but ... *sigh* ... I'm really not a fan of this guy's work.
Granted I haven't read either of these series (is that Matteo Scalera who did the Chrononauts cover?) but his past stories have really left a sour taste in my mouth.

I absolutely hated the graphic novel Kick-Ass (which is weird since I LOVED the movie) and Nemesis was even worse. Both of those stories were just schlock stacked on top of schlock, not much care for actually making the characters of story engaging. Wanted was the same exact way, They all just made me wrinkle my nose in disgust, and not in that effective Steven King kind of way...

More like a Platinum Dunes horror movie kind of way...

Surprised at the love for Chrononauts, I gave up on the series. It wasn't bad, I it just didn't hook me.

However I would LOVE a Chrononauts movie. I love historic time travel in movies.

Not familiar with these 2 properties. I'd still see them if they're made into movies.

@Jollem

Tbf Millar didn't exactly do himself a lot of favors, a good chunk of his works really focused on shocking violence which can alienate a lot of people. He's breaking out of that mold now with Starlight, Chrononauts and Jupiters Circle but still, once you've built a reputation as the ZOMG SHLOCK VIOLENCE! guy its kind of hard to break out of it.

I want Nemesis, then Super Crooks, then Superior, but I will be happy with anything that's adapted of his!

correct me if i'm wrong but the problem with Millar is that he always says the idea of turning his comic into a movie was pitched to the studio, everything is going good, they are looking for director/actors/writer now ... yada,yada,yada ... and then the silence. After 4 monts of silence he's mentioning the movie in some interview ... yada,yada,yada ... SILENCE.AGAIN.

or maybe i just mistaken Millar movies with comic book movies in which he's consultant. Either way, he speaks a LOT.

He's a consultant for Fox (who gave us Kingsman) so undoubtly the new movies will come from this studio. Wanted was made by Universal, KickAss was made with the sponsors help.

Still he's comics can be adapted, there is still hope (but besides maybe Nemesis i really don't care)... Not like Todd Mcfarlane's new Spawn movie. That April's Fool joke was not even funny. Is this project dead or not ?

At this point, why doesn't Millar just write screenplays, instead of having talented artists waste their time drawing film pitches disguised as comics?

@TDKReturnsBat

I don't hate on Millar's films.

I hate on his books. They are [frick]ing shit.

The only one I loved was his Marvel Knights Spider-Man book. I haven't read Red Son so I'm not gonna say it's shit but I read Kick-Ass, Civil War, his Aunt May prequel where it's revealed she is actually Peter's mother, Old Man Logan (though I do admit, I love the Red Skull in that but as much as I love the Red Skull stuff, I hate the Hulk stuff 10 times more), Ultimate Fantastic Four, Nemesis, and other work and they all are shit.

Here's all I know about Spawn.

Jamie Foxx is gonna play Spawn.

MacFarlane wants to direct and write it.

MacFarlane hasn't finished the script.

MacFarlane I believe wants a budget of 10 million.
