Kevin Feige Says He Hasn't Even Begun To Think About Introducing The Likes Of The X-MEN Into The MCU

None of us expected Marvel to begin introducing Fox's characters into the MCU straight away, but Kevin Feige now seems to have confirmed that it's not going to happen for at least another couple of years.

If you were hoping the recent Disney/Fox deal would influence any of the films already on Marvel's slate, we've got some bad news. In fact, it could be a couple of years before the studio even begins to think about it.

Vulture grilled Kevin Feige about the possibility of seeing the likes of The X-Men and Deadpool in The MCU during the press junket for Black Panther in Los Angeles today, and the Marvel Studios head honcho said the specifics of the deal were "above his pay grade"

“The truth of the matter, as I understand it, is the deal has to be figured out. There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do.”

There's always a chance Feige is playing coy, of course, but when quizzed further he remained adamant that no plans were in motion yet and none of the films in development right now would be effected. “It would be years away," Feige replied when asked if he had thought about attempting to utilize any of Fox's character for the current MCU slate. "We’ve announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted.”

What do you guys make of Feige's comments? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

So, essentially what he's saying if you read between the lines is this:

We are focusing on the movies that will end Phase 3. And this deal will not impact the movies we've already announced, which are the upcoming 5 (or 7 if you include the announced Guardians 3 and Spidey 2). Who is to say what will happen after phase 3 ends. Could the Fox acquisition affect Phase 4? Maybe. But that will be years away, and the films we've announced are our main attention.

I don't believe him when he says he had no idea before the acquisition. How did he know about Spidey, but not this?

@BlackPhillip - Well technically, Spidey was a Sony Marvel deal, whereas this is a Disney Fox deal.

I think that he had some idea of what was going on but played no role in the deal. I find it hard to believe that Disney wouldn't say "we're going to give you the X-Men and FF rights" but I bet those talks were certainly above his pay grade, as he said.

Not a real surprise, but honestly the could start casting Fox characters next year in 2019 after the deal is finalized for 2020 releases and it would still fit what he’s saying above.
