RUMOR: NOVA Project WILL Be A Disney+ Series, Possibly Focusing On Sam Alexander

A new rumor is claiming that Marvel Studios has made a final decision on the Nova project that's been in development since 2022, and it's going to be a Disney+ series after all...

We first got confirmation that Marvel Studios was planning to introduce Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2022, and since then, there have been conflicting reports about which medium the project was being developed for.

Last we heard, the studio had settled on a movie, but a new rumor is claiming that Nova will be making his debut on the small screen after all.

According to Daniel Richtman, Nova will be a Disney+ series, and production is currently scheduled to get underway at some point next year. The reliable insider has also heard that the show will focus on a "young lead," which means there's a decent chance it won't be Richard Rider, but Marvel Comics' more recent incarnation of the space-faring hero, Sam Alexander.

A young lead would also indicate that Ryan Gosling won't be playing the character!

The Barbie and The Fall Guy star reportedly met with Kevin Feige about potentially coming aboard the Marvel Cinematic Universe last year, and Nova was one of the characters believed to have been discussed.

The Nova Corps were introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, which led to speculation that Richard Rider would eventually find his way into the GOTG franchise. James Gunn showed little interest in the character, but the Nova series - if that is indeed what it turns out to be - will most likely spin-out from Thanos decimating most of the Corps in the build-up to Avengers: Infinity War.

Here's what Feige had to say about Nova's MCU introduction back in 2021.

"Timing is relative, right?" said the Marvel Studios boss. "I think I'd been talking about Doctor Strange eight years before that movie came out. So, 'immediate potential' is relative. But clearly, we are not shying away from the cosmic end of storytelling right in the sweet spot of the Nova Corps and Nova himself."

Sam Alexander first appeared in the Marvel Point One one-shot in back in November 2011 before going on to lead his own series beginning in February 2013. The Arizona teen inherited the Nova helmet from his missing father, and officially took up the mantle after being trained by Guardians of the Galaxy members Gamora and Rocket Raccoon.

What do you make of this rumor? Would you be okay with Nova being a Disney+ series and not a movie? What about going with Sam Alexander over Richard Rider? Drop us a comment down below.

Feels like announcing a new Star Wars movie that's going straight to DVD. The galactic space sh1t should be made for the big screen.

Before I would say

There is no way that Feige and Marvel would do Nova without an amazing character like Richard Rider

That is the Nova character the overwhelming fans want to see

Now I know that Feige and Marvel no longer do what fans want

So yeah I believe this rumor

and it will be just another MCU Failure

@WakandaTech - My proposal for Richard Rider is to cast a top tier A list actor and cover the decimation of Zandar and have him die at the end

@WakandaTech - I mean people got mad when we found out that Marvel was gonna go straight to Scott Lang, instead of doing Hank Pym the OG Ant-Man and the films other than 3 ended up working just fine.

@WakandaTech - And are fans clamoring for a female Silver Surfer? Disney started off so well with the MCU, but like AT&T w/ DC before Discovery got in the mix, too many bean counters and corp execs involved in making decisions based on $ and not what’s best or most desired by fans.

I get it, it’s a company designed to make money. But the money comes from the fans. We should be listed to. Aside from a handful of ppl at Marvel, too many decision makers don’t know squat about comics and what fans want.

@Cleander - It's not even that, it's called respecting what came before. I would feel the same if we saw X-23 as Wolverine before Logan, The Falcon as Captain America before Steve Rogers or Miles as Spider-Man before Peter.

Respect the source material.

@TheFinestSmack - Seem to recall the rumor first starting after GotG but yeh, it keeps coming around and likely would have gotten it sooner if they hadn't scrapped the Xandar scene in Infinity War as with what Gunn did with the Novacops and that scene being scrapped complicated landing a way to do Nova well.

Richard Rider. Solo origin story. On the Big Screen.

That is the only thing that makes sense.

@GeneralZod - Regarding the quantity issue, it depends on how the releases are distributed. Some of these are not even official and most don't have release dates yet. As for quality, who knows...

@Urubrodi - Back in the day we had 22 episodes of Agents of Shield alone thus three shows with an average of 7 episodes wouldn't be much different in quantity as long as they feel more standalone and less required viewing...

...the quality is the issue, nail that and most wouldn't mind if we had a new episode of something Marvel related every week of the year (as long as we can pick and choose what we want to invest our time on).

It is only when you have multiple shows dropping at the exact same time it gets to be a potential issue with TV but can get round that to some degree by dropping all episodes of some shows at once if they are not the sort that benefit in the water cooler moments like WandaVision did with a weekly release.

Quality is key

I know some aren’t fans of Sam Alexander as a character but I would be cool with him as the lead though it could still be Richard Rider (he was a high school student when he became Nova in the comics).

Marcel Ruiz for Sam Alexander

Nick Robinson for Richard Rider

@TheVisionary25 - I was going to say the same thing about Rich being young. He was a teenager in high school. I am trying to remember who the original author was. I think it was Marv Wolfman and he was wanting to do a new character harkening back to when Spider-Man was first created and was a teenager with superpowers.

I think Marvel is just lost

No direction on what the paying audience actually wants

Feige has settled into being mediocre at best

The days of the Infinity Saga are way gone
and Marvel will never come close to that success

@Ryguy88 - Loved it up until DoFP, was only after that I lost interest in it, but also loved Logan...

...sure the Wolverine solo's were a let down as was X3 but still enjoyed them.

However there are aspects of other Fox films, such as New Mutants, I liked even if overall they fell flat for me but my huge issue wasn't anything about not enjoying the films, my issues was the continuity was a mess, killed off too many good characters, how they handled certain ones like Cyclops and Rogue and stuff like that. This is the thing I can love a film and still see the flaws or dislike a film and still see aspects I liked but everyone reads everything as one extreme or another sans nuance.

However the point I was making specific to Feige and FoxMen is there was a counter that Wolverine wasn't a Marvel Studios character, which is true, but Feige was literaly there at his auditions for Fox back in the day so although the films were produced at Fox is still kind of a Feige casting choice in large part and Fiege was also at least eec prod on all the Fox CBM's :D

@Apophis71 - cant disagree with anything said there
