Mark Millar Confirms That Joe Carnahan Will Helm NEMESIS; Offers THE SECRET SERVICE Update

Joe Carnahan may have missed out on the opportunity too helm Daredevil for Fox, but prolific comic book writer Mark Millar now confirms that he is now working on bringing Nemesis to the big screen. He also offers up an idea of when Matthew Vaughn will begin working on The Secret Service.

Earlier this week, Mark Millar revealed that work was still ongoing with the big screen adaptation of his and Steve McNiven's Nemesis, and the wriiter has now confirmed (via the Millarworld Forums) that Joe Carnahan will indeed direct and write the screenplay alongside his brother Matthew. The former was recently in the running to helm a 1970s set Daredevil movie for Fox, but issues with the rights now means that that will not be happening. With any luck, that bad news for fans of the "Man Without Fear" will be good news for fans of Nemesis. As you can see from the comments below, there's currently no word on casting, although it definitely sounds as if we should expect to see Liam Neeson as Det. Blake Morrow if talks end up working out.

"Shot straight from a wedding in Manchester last week to the City of Angels and plunged straight into some studio biz on the Nemesis movie. Mighty Joe Carnahan is directing (from a script by he and his brother Matthew), but this much you already know. Fox wanted us to get in the same room for the first time and really hash this out, which was exciting. Joe has a really brilliant take on this and Matt and he are going to take things from here so I'm really happy. Absolutely no casting has been done formally although you can google the MTV interview from last January where he and Sir Liam Neeson are chatting about it. More news as it happens."

Another upcoming Mark Millar adaptation is The Secret Service. Co-plotted by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class) and pencilled by Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), it now sounds as if we can expect the film to move into production once work on X-Men: Days of Future Past wraps (quite a long way down the road at this point). However, even more exciting is the fact that Millar has been meeting with Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Batman: Arkham Asylum) which will hopefully mean that he'll end up cameoing as himself in the film.

"Matthew Vaughn and I conceived The Secret Service a year or two back and plan to make into a movie once he's wrapped the First Class sequel next year. Our inner-geeks are buzzing about the idea of seeing Mark H play himself on the Lucas stage if that's where we end up filming, but this lunch was nothing official and just a thank you for Mark letting us kill him off. It'll be eighteen months at least before we get into a Secret Service movie since X-Men 2 is such a huge commitment for Matthew."

Since we're getting Carnahan as director, Liam Neeson will probably play the lead, with Frank Grillo playing some supporting character. Hopefully Carnahan gets Joe Anderson to play Nemesis...

Not against this choice.

Liam Neeson vs Paul Bettany, Guy Pearce or Patrick Wilson would be awesome. :)

I like Millar's writing but it seems like since Kick-Ass all his miniseries and comic books just seem to exist to be movie pitches, I think the Secret Service movie was announced before the first issue came out
