THE HOBBIT: Evangeline Lilly Reveals Details On Her Character "Tauriel"

We knew Lilly's character was an Elf created for the movie, but now the former Lost actress gives us a bit more to go on. You wouldn't want to mess with this pointy eared chick apparently..

Back when the lovely Lost actress was cast in Peter Jackson's LOTR prequel, all that was revealed was her character's name and that she was a Elf. Aside from that the rest has been a bit of a mystery. But while speaking to EW about the Blu-ray release of Real Steal Lilly opens up a bit more. Mild SPOILERS ahead..

“Yes, she is a warrior. She’s actually the head of the Elven guard. She’s the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly. You definitely wouldn’t want to be caught in a dark alley next to Tauriel.”

Lilly also says that her role in the first movie, An Unexpected Journey, is quite a small one and that she only makes an appearance in the end, but that she plays a much larger part in There And Back Again. When asked whether Tauriel will feature in the climactic Battle Of The Five Armies she responds: "Oh, I don’t know. We haven’t shot that yet. I still have to go back for five more months of filming.". I think it's a safe bet though.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14, 2012 with The Hobbit: There and Back Again following on December 13, 2013.

Good casting. She's got that "elfy" look. Plus, she's already an E.L.F. (Evangeline I'd like to... Friend on Facebook)

She's cute and all, but I'm going to this movie to see everything else BUT her! She's just a made-up addition. I especially can't wait to see what Peter Jackson has in store for Legolas's scene-stealing fight-scene at the Battle of the Five Armies.

Her character's lethal AND deadly??? Oh be still my sarcasm!!!

And yes, she'd have been the perfect Carol Ferris, Lois Lane, Ms Marvel, Black Widow, Catwoman, Elektra, etc.

ckal@ Sorry but that doesn't really compute for me. Why does by a king's son mean you automatically should be head of the guard? I don't think most kings would want their sons to be king of the guard if you really think about it. They should be grooming to be the next king and the guard should be protecting him. That's what a royal guard does...they protect royalty...not the other way around. ;-)

So...what is so unnecessary about this rewrite? Some would say the Elven Army appearance at Helms Deep was unnecessary, but it sure as hell added a great element to the film as far as I saw it. I don't mind a few liberties taken. I see this as adding a much-needed female element to the film, which I don't have any issue with. I get more upset when they leave really important stuff out.
