MAN OF STEEL: How Does Superman Shave Anyway?

MAN OF STEEL: How Does Superman Shave Anyway?

Fans have asked that question for years, but it became particularly relevant when Henry Cavill was seen sporting a full face warmer in the trailers for Man Of Steel. Check out a Gillette ad with a teeny bit of new footage, and video responses from the likes of Kevin Smith, Bill Nye & more.

Here's the original Gillette advert, with a few seconds of new footage from Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel.

And here are the video theories from Bill Nye, Kevin Smith, Mayim Bialik and Jamie Hyneman & Adam Savage of Mythbusters.

Which theory do you guys think is soundest? Be sure to post your own below.

Personally I like the way they should it in Hancock, just use his nails. Never liked the heat vision way, seemed odd that he didn't melt the mirror first.

Or maybe he does use a razor in this as his hair isn't super strong,

Yea, I just always figured he used heat vision to shave!

As for cutting his hair on his head, maybe just does it one by one by breaking at super speed

I am more curious as to how they approach keeping his Clark Kent identity secret in this one. Beard and no beard?

I'd say his father probably put some Kryptonian razors in the spaceship.

Blue kryptonite razor! Loses all his abilities and can therefore shave.

this is very easy, red sun makes superman normal. he has technology in the fortress that can create a artificial red sun and then all he needs is a good schick razor to do the job. nuff said.....

I go with what the comics have presented in the past, unless the new 52 changes it ;) - is DC searching for answers to that question themselves?

That was a "smooth move" for Gillette to capitalize on some Man of Steel appeal to market their product.

If he can't shave why isn't his beard huge and why isn't his hair like down to his feet?

We do know that his hair is as strong and indestructible as he is thanks to the best Superman movie: Superman IV The Quest for Peace.

Actually isnt hair dead cells? so in theory he should be able to cut his hair any way since they are DEAD cells, and our SUN would cause his hair to grow like everyone elses here on EARTH
Brainiac13
Brainiac13 - 5/28/2013, 11:55 AM
Kevin Smiths theory makes sense!
Tony93
Tony93 - 5/28/2013, 11:57 AM
With that case being, he would be able to shave his chest, legs, armpit hair, back hair and.. because they are DEAD cells.
Or else he would have a forest growing between his legs...
Tony93
Tony93 - 5/28/2013, 11:59 AM
also possible is his hair growing exponentially with his age.. which would help justify his hair growing too much as a kid and they would need to find a way to cut it. lets say his hair doesnt grow as fast as humans, so when hes little he has short hair, when he gets older he grows hair but slowly..

fattieacid - 5/28/2013, 12:01 PM
how about the theory that maybe his hair is just normal?? maybe all his hair on his body is just regular hair. just because his skin can't be cut through, doesnt mean his hair cant be..

He probably bust regular nuts. He doesn't take a super piss does he?

And yeah, this is absolutely the lowest part of my day.
l0rdleg0las
l0rdleg0las - 5/28/2013, 12:03 PM
@nibs

when a guy pops off it is an uncontrolled muscle spasm in the body that causes him to bust a nut. now in the case of a regular healthy human male, it has been documented that sperm leaves the body at around 40 miles an hour. now with a kryptonian body that is immeasurably stronger than that of a normal human, his muscle spasm would cause his busting of a nut to be like a shotgun blast.

Superman should sport "the Gusto"

l0rdleg0las
l0rdleg0las - 5/28/2013, 12:08 PM
on the topic of hair and shaving. hair is an accumulation of dead cells from the body. meaning there is no need for a superpowered way of shaving.

not only that, but consider this. Superman didn't have all his powers right away. some came in at later times in his life. now if in fact his hair is super, how the hell were the Kent's getting him haircuts as a baby or child before his heat vision ability popped up? his hair is just like anyone else's, it is dead cells that can be cut with ease.

Mayim Bialik looked pretty good in that video. I'm crushing a bit on Blossum like I was back when I was a kid. Big Bang Theory really messes her look up.

I dont think modern age superman has super hair i think golden age supermans hair was like unbreakable but i think superman in man of steel uses a razor i think he CAN use his heat vision bcuz he has control over how hot his heat vision can be so iphe just sets it low then shaves! :)

I would probably like Superman if he had a beard.
AC1
AC1 - 5/28/2013, 12:37 PM
Hair and nails are composed of dead cells, which is why you don't feel pain when you get a hair cut. It's simple to assume that dead Kryptonian cells don't share Superman's invulnerability.

How about that? Turning one of the most cummon Superman questions, and then turn it in to a movie fact which will be used as a marketing campaign before the movie is released, man this is just getting better and better !!!
