Sylvester Stallone is no stranger to the world of superheroes, starring in movies like Judge Dredd and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He was even considered for the lead role in Superman: The Movie once upon a time, but it turns out there was another dream role he had his eye on....literally!

"I don’t look like any comic book character," he said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter"Like, I could have never played the Terminator. No one would make a robot with a crooked mouth and voice that sounds like a pallbearer."

"It just doesn’t work. But yes. Who was the guy Sam Jackson ended up playing? Yeah [Nick Fury]. I thought I could have done something like that, where I’m not the main guy."

Sly probably would have made a much better Fury than David Hasselhoff ever did back in the day, so it's a shame this never happened. Samuel L. Jackson has helped make the character iconic, though, and it's now hard to imagine anyone else bringing the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director to life on screen.

In the same interview, Stallone was asked to share his thoughts on how superhero movies now overshadow action blockbusters, but he has a bigger issue with an overreliance on CGI.

"Yes, it is [frustrating]," the actor admits. "[Great action movies are] like buying a vintage watch. Originally it was $35, and now it’s $35,000. Why? Because it’s handmade. It wasn’t over the top. It wasn’t supernatural. It was something a unique human being could achieve. That’s why I think First Blood is one of the first action films."

"I relied on body acting to tell the story. The character never talks, but you know exactly what’s going on through the other characters. They’re almost like narrators in his Greek tragedy. The guy never stops moving, and that’s what I call an 'action film.' There’s not one CGI shot. The audience goes: That is pretty special."

It is a shame that action movies have now become a little more niche in recent years, but the John Wick franchise, for example, proves there is still interest in the genre.

Do you think Stallone would have made a good Nick Fury?

Nick Fury is one of my favourite characters so i've always wished we could have got the WW2 Sergeant, Infinity Formula, classic version of Nick. Stallone would have been okay at that. Not my first pick probably.

I do like Sly though. I wouldn't mind some project featuring his team of Ravagers (without James Gunn involved maybe).

@TheManWithoutFear - Dude, Nick Fury in the Punisher Max series might be the best comic character ever written.

@IcePyke - Actually never thought of him in "The Punisher" role, but yeah back in the day, that would have been a better fit than Nick Fury.

I love this guy. He would've actually made a pretty good Nick Fury.

Love to see him in a Ryan Coogler directed Superman movie.

He could’ve pulled a Scorsese and crapped on comic book movies and I would’ve given him a pass to be honest.

The dude is a legend and was a big part of my movie experience growing up. And he’s done some great comic roles. So he gets to share his thoughts.

The Expendables are some of the worst action movies around which is such a shame, they should have been amazing with that cast. And stallone seems like a smart guy. But I hope big action extravaganzas return. I miss em.

Equilizer is my favourite action franchise at the moment. I think the first one is so much better than John Wick. I love Wick’s cinematography and some of its action, but it’s so self serious it comes across as parody to me. I just don’t buy Keanu as the tough guy they keep telling me he is. They talk about how badass he is so much that I think people just believe it. But mostly he just goes around doing a lot of headshots and it bores me.

Equilizer is self serious too but Denzel elevates it and I buy every bit of what a [frick]ing badass this guy is. It earns its serious tone and doesnt come across so silly.

@connorblaze - The Expendables is always going to be hard BECAUSE of that big cast. It's just too many people and big names that all require their time to shine on screen, in a 90 minute-2 hour movie. I don't know that there's any world where you can make that story work well.

"The character never talks, but you know exactly what’s going on through the other characters. "

Well that's because the other characters were cast with good actors who could carry you.

If The Hoff does not show up as a Fury variant, then Feige is dead to me.

Stallone would make for a great Wildcat in the DCU. Characteristics? Washed up old boxer who still moonlights as a vigilante and beats the crap out of bad guys.
Also I like Sly as Star Hawke, now if he could just not mumble every line he delivers I think the younger crowd would like him more.
Last pick for him would be the X-men villain Avalanche or or or the Blob!

I would like some classic styled action movies. Outside of John Wick and shitty Dwayne Johnson movie there isn’t many.
