In anticipation of the upcoming Marvel movies Iron Man 2, Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America, ComicBookMovie.com gave its members the chance to show off their artistic talent and win some great prizes! We asked our members to create an original piece of art featuring Captain America, Iron Man and Thor in poster form for an Avengers movie. Any other heroes or villains could be added to augment the team, as long as the poster features the three mentioned members. The contest was open to any kind of artistic medium from pencils to photo manipulations. The only stipulation was that the submission had to be an original piece.
We received a total of 55 contest entries that you can view HERE. After a few days of deliberation the five judges have decided the winners, and here they are:
Prize Winners!
TheArtofOneness Brent Sprecher: I selected this piece because it has the kind of dynamic action that a real movie poster needs to have to catch the eye of the jaded moviegoer. Even if I was not a comic book fan, if I saw this poster in a theater lobby I would stop and take notice. Teabag: I cannot stop looking at this work. As a piece of art it is an amazing accomplishment as I’m guessing there are quite a few different mediums used. I think this would make a fantastic movie poster. Shaman: Because the costumes are the most accurate as well as the proportions. The colors are beautifully rendered and the style is clean cut, making the costumes and skins textures practicaly palpable. You can easily tell what is skin, leather, metal or fabric. The effects are stunning and unmatched in every possible way. The facial expressions are very realistic. The complex shading is perfectly executed and that is a monumental feat considering that there is more than one light source. Ian Cherry RorMachine:
It’s just the best of them for me. Great color, detail and it looks like a proper movie poster. MultiPurposePoni:
Caught my eye immediately, which is the exact purpose of a teaser poster. If they would release this poster in theaters today I’d have no problem. My fav out of the bunch. Brent Sprecher:
This mock poster just exudes raw power to me! It's very dark and moody, hinting at how dire things would need to be to put out the call..."Avengers Assemble!" Chris Drew Shaman:
It's quite simply the best sketch ever submitted! The textures, proportions and shading are pitch perfect and all done with a pencil! Amazing work! Teabag:
I love this drawing; the pencil work just sends my senses tingling! MultiPurposePoni:
Flawless symmetry and proportions, with the characters organized in an original pose. I can see this as a 10 ft banner when you’re walking into the theater. Plus, I love seeing Wolverine and Spider-Man included in the group.
Honorable Mentions!
Brent Sprecher: 17. I'mNotWearingHockeyPants
Something about this artist's style made me come back to it over and over again. It's not pretty or clean or slick artwork, but it kicks @$$ nonetheless! RorMachine: 24. Jonathan Fawcett
Great use of color and I think its hand drawn. . maybe touched up a bit on a computer. To be honest some of these it’s hard to tell with! Anyway, awesome poster. Shaman: 1. Abror Khasanov
It's the best photo manipulated poster I’ve seen submitted! Teabag: 8. Chris Campana
Ok, I’m a sucker for pencil work and although the proportions are off a bit the poses work well together as do the style. MultiPurposePoni: 51. Wing Lee
I want this one for my office. I love the sepia tone and it has the Wasp! Thanks again to all of our participants! All the entries displayed great talent and artistry. We hope you enjoyed this contest as much as we did. Stay tuned, our next one is just around the corner!
