Im curating the follwing event in London, it's a free art exhibition at Orbital Comics to raise funds and awareness for World Aids Day...come along and take a peek, there's an event page on facebook also where I'll be uploading all the images day by day...
Mission: To gather together the best artists, performers, writers, actors, and musicians with connections to the Comic Book and Sci-Fi universe. To have them doodle, scribble, draw, or embellish a postcard to the best of their ability in order that it be displayed and auctioned as part of a collective exhibition in London.
Aims: To raise funds in aid of THT* (Terrence Higgins Trust) and spread awareness of HIV/AIDS. To create a...n event that will successfully complete a trilogy of art exhibitions that first began back in 2009**
Why? ….good question! Working in and out of London I was dismayed when two charity fundraising exhibitions to coincide with World Aids Day did not go ahead in previous years. On the 1st of December, working from my building, I found myself wondering why I appeared to be the only person wearing a red ribbon? Is there a giant elephant in the room that nobody is talking about anymore? It seems the virus that plagues our planet is no longer talked about, no longer fashionable…and just something we do not discuss?
How can this be?
Globally, over 33 Million people are currently living with HIV and AIDS…
11,600,000 children in Sub-Saharan Africa have been orphaned by HIV…
More than 86,500 people have been diagnosed with HIV in the UK…
In 2007, 2,630 gay men in the UK were diagnosed with HIV…
In the real world there are no ‘supermen’ to save us from this epidemic. There is no portal to another dimension and no alien science to find a cure. However we can champion this cause, we can assist the people living with this disease and we can help those researching the virus find new ways to cope with and defeat it.
This years exhibition will include new works from Russell Tovey(Being Human), Robert Sheehan(Misfits), James Earl Jones(Star Wars), Patrick Stewart(Star trek/X-Men), Alex Kingston(Doctor Who), Katee Sackhoff(Battle Star Galactica), Adam West(Batman), Brian Blessed(Flash Gordon), Olivia Williams(Dollhouse), Kevin Spacey(Superman Returns), Danny John-Jules(Red Dwarf), and many more.
Artists contributing new works include Chris Giarrusso, Lee Townsend, Shaky Kane, Leinel Yu and Jack Lawrence...
