While talking with the Cigar Aficionado Magazine, Hugh Jackman- who has appeared in every X-Men film to date - says once again that he'd love to continue to play Wolverine and that he has to keep finding a way to play the role again, "The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I've got to find a way to keep playing him until I die." With all the recasting going on, Jackman tells how he would feel if his character got recast for another actor. "I know that someday they'll recast the role with another actor...I'd be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic." Jackman will next suit up as the Wolverine in Wolverine 3, where he will most likely team up with the older version of Professor Charles Xavier. There hasn't been any confirmation on whether or not Wolverine will appear in X-Men: Apocalypse but knowing Fox, he'll have a cameo appearance or something of that sort. We've already had Storm, Jean, and Cyclops recast, would you all want to see Wolverine get recast? Sound off below with your thoughts!

His Wolverine was this generation's introduction to the character. He'll be sorely missed when he does go, but by Christ, he's been awesome.

If it wasn't for his First Class cameo, a past-recast like Vaughn wanted in the First Class trilogy would be a good way to move on from Jackman. Vaughn planned it out before the Wolverine was released so we could have had the new Wolverine in the 1930's flashbacks

Good to see he got the spark back. Before Wolverine was done and before Days of Future Past was done his future as Wolverine was shaky. I want Hugh to keep playing the role as long as he still has the passion for it and he obviously has rekindled it. Keep kicking ass and being awesome!

He IS wolverine. But just like RDJ eventually he is going to have to be recast, he can't play the part forever, unless someone finds the fountain of youth and gives him unlimited access to it. Guys i'll be right back....

As much as I've enjoyed Hugh as Wolverine, it's about time someone else fills his shoes. I want to see Wolverine taking a backseat to Cyclops, like he is in the comics. I think as long as Hugh is playing Wolverine, he will get the most screen time. So if you bring in a new person to play Wolverine, it's easier to show the other X-Men instead.

It doesn't matter if I like him to be recast or not. Hugh has been a fantastic Wolvervine but he can't stop time. He's been playing the role now 16 years since production began on X-Men. In time, if FOX wants to continue with the franchise they will eventually have to recast at some point. They simply can't let the character go.

He wants to keep playing Logan in hopes that he'll appear in an MCU. Just kidding. He may not look like comic Wolverine, he still plays Logan pretty good. I'm fine with him playing Wolverine for a long time. I hope he is in Apocalypse. I wouldn't mind a cameo in Deadpool either.

Only flaw in Jackman as Wolverine is his height but that's better than getting a shitty short actor to play Logan.
Hugh is great. End.

There's really a doubt that he'll be in Apocalypse?

Really can't wait to see Wolverine be a Horseman in Apocalypse.

It's gonna happen. No doubt in my mind.

I'd actually be cool with Hugh not showing up in Apocalypse. The only way I'm actually looking forward to seeing him is either a Horseman, aiding the X-Men or a possible cameo. Only thing that makes me think that Hugh will reprise his role in Apocalypse is that fact that Mangold stated himself that production for the film wouldn't start until AFTER Apocalypse.

They've already missed the chance of recasting him if we've seen him in both the past and Future of the X-Men films. The only legit way to recast Hugh is if the entire franchise gets rebooted again. It would look too lazy if there's a future Wolverine that looks like Hugh and a Modern Wolverine that looks different (unless they cast someone close to his features)

Oh yeah, Phoenix for the next rebooted Wolverine.

Dang, I cant believe how long its been. I remember seeing the first X-Men movie being advertised on t.v, my little kid mind was blown.

Hugh Jackman will always be part of my childhood, I'll be sad when he eventually hangs up the claws.

Plot twist - Jackman's been playing Logan so long that he's actually developed a mutant healing factor, and will thus live forever to keep playing the role.

Nah but in all seriousness, Jackman really made the role his own - even when you consider the little things like height discrepancies, his passion and dedication for the role and his massive talent as an actor more than make up for it. In fact, I'm convinced that his naysayers, who so often seem hung up on his height as proof of 'miscasting' (bullshit, by the way) are just annoyed (perhaps rightly so) that Wolverine became such a focus for the entire franchise, bar one film. But even then, you can see why that happened - Wolverine is one of the most interesting comic book characters (not just X-Men, but most superheroes) and Jackman's acting ability and love of the character and ability to draw an audience makes him the perfect franchise lead.

Now that Days of Future Past has hopefully corrected some of the franchises mistakes and set it on a different narrative direction, I do hope the filmmakers and Fox take this as an opportunity to rethink what they're doing with the character. If he appears in future team up movies, he shouldn't be the lead anymore, but rather an important supporting player. Let him take a step back - Apocalypse would be the perfect way to go about that, and making him a Horseman would be a brilliant way of having him play a prominent role in the movie while allowing the new cast to shine. After that, I think Fox need to have a bit more faith in the franchise and not be afraid of X-Men movies where the character makes no appearance at all - it seems Deadpool may start that trend, but it'd be cool to see a movie about the X-Men team (with Cyclops, Jean, Beast, etc.) that didn't involve Wolverine at all.

And Jackman could continue to play Wolverine in spin-offs - I think he and James Mangold have a good thing going now that they've set the solo Wolverine movies on the right track, and there's enough quality solo material out there to mine for the character for a while (Old Man Logan, anyone?). And he's not just limited to solo movies, X-Force would be another great way to use Wolverine, in a different team setting, perhaps utilising other spin-off characters (I think a good line-up would be Wolverine, Deadpool, Cable, Gambit, Psylocke and maybe Mystique, given her more anti-heroic status post-DOFP), and it'd be great to see that with a grittier, darker, maybe more overtly violent tone than the mainstream X-Men films. That way, people still get their Wolverine fix, Jackman gets to keep playing the role, they get to delve into the more violent side of the character (the only thing they haven't really mined yet, for obvious studio reasons) and the character doesn't overwhelm the X-Men franchise/team. I'm ready for Wolverine and Jackman to take a bit of a step back, but not because I'm tired of the character or the actor - it's because I don't want them to crash and burn and become tedious due to overexposure, but still want to see them both for a long time to come.

And of course, @Kingpin is right - when Jackman leaves (especially if he leaves sooner rather than later, and assuming the likes of McAvoy, Fassbender, Lawrence, etc. have departed the franchise necessitating a reboot), Marvel should call up Fox and try to arrange a deal like the one they've got with Sony and Spider-Man. Especially as they already have Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who could be used to add familiarity to the new version of the X-Men franchise.

if they do recast, I really doubt we will ever find anyone who truely loves the character as much a Jackman

I love Hugh in the role but I'd like to see a new actor closer to the comic book eventually. Short, stocky, and scary as hell.

@typicalfanboy

That's one thing I hated about those films...he always uses his claws...for everything! They never show his wits or his martial art skills. The 90s cartoon portrayed him better.

@JredTheRed

When you see someone portray Logan closer to the source material, they will be very dedicated to it and show they care as much. To do so, study the comics, and not just follow the Hollywood trend set for Wolvie, you've got to be. He will be recast one day and we will see the true Wolverine, no doubt.
